Shudder Renew extra $$$$

I stumbled on to a great way to make a vinyl house that is at least 10 years old stand out. After cleaning it. Paint the shudders with a clear coat that`s for plastic & outdoor use. There is no mess,no taping & it dries like new in 10 minutes. I charged $ 50.00 for 3 sets. Used 1&1/2 cans. Bought at Wal-Mart for $ 3.00 a can. It took 2 of us 10 minutes, It worked so great I did 2 HO this week. They both were thrilled. Check out the Pics. Kipp

Kipp, any problems with overspray on the windows?  I've used Armor All on my own shudders and they looked  better....for awhile.

Kipp with out protecting the window how could it not get on the glass and cause complications? are you saying that even if it does get on the glass that it's not noticeable?

Even if you did have a little over spray next time use a cloth and wipe it on. I bet liquid teflon would work great too! I'm throwing this one in my work inventory. Thanks Kipp!

Simply use a piece of thin cardboard with a straight edge and hold it squarely next to the area to be sprayed. A 24"x 12" would be a good size.

I like to use armor all for a yearly treatment @$6 per shudder. We have lots of customers that redo this every year.

Armor all might be good but this is like painting the shudders. If you use cardboard to put up against the shudder you will see a streak that will need to be sprayed. You don`t have to worry about getting it on the windows because there is a frame between the shudder & window. It`s the easiest restoration I`ve ever done & I`m sure it will last a long time because it`s like painting. Kipp

You don't necessarily have to but it up against, just get real close,..would stop the mist. I can't believe you can spray these shutters along the edges and not get any spray on the surrounding vinyl siding or trim.

whats gonna happen when that clear coat is overs prayed onto weathered vinyl siding, or weathered aluminum in an uneven pattern?  I will tell you,...it's gonna be shiny and then later on it will probably turn a yellow hue due to the uv rays. But hey this is a roof cleaning forum so this is my last post on this topic. Good Luck!!

Also if you really do want to spray them and not use a cloth, you could take them down and spray them. They are only in with screws and most are just simple plugs without screws. They snap in and out. Sometimes they could be caulked which I guess is a PITA

Cautions when removing shutters, there is always bees nest behind shutters. this could really be terrifying if your on the ladder and the bees swarm at you. I know of a painter that freaked out and jumped of an extension ladder and broke bones.

oops I suppose I better stick to roof cleaning. LOL

That is a darn good point. I was on a ladder ripping a cedar roof at age 14 and boom I hit a bees nest, jerked the ladder back and it slowly crashed me to the ground. No injury though, probably because I was an invincible teenager. I take that back my dad smacked me in the back of the head, I assume for not climbing down the ladder while being stung.  Who lets a rambunxious 14 year old 20 feet up on a ladder anyway? The same guy who used to say " you don't wear a mask, be a professional" thats who. God bless him, I'm a better man for it.
I think I also got a beer for my first ladder fall!lol

Sounds like a great idea. I know how to safely remove any overspray. Thanks for your post! Very informative for those interested in more than just the roof.
