Gary, I certainly support this site and the reason I decided to pay the $150 to be a premium member is so that I can submit my promo posts. I choose not to be certified, only because I haven't had any requests from my customers or inquires from the public. I don't mean to be disrespectful to you or anyone else, but I haven't heard of anyone that's certified tell me that it has brought in additional business. I'm all for supporting this website, but what's the value of being a premium member than? $150 is a solid contribution and right now you seem to be insulting those that have supported this site with their membership fee. I'm not going to make a big deal about this, but like I said, I, and the other premium members, support this site and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's feeling like he's getting shaken down.

Have you or anyone else experienced a sufficient amount of calls from customers because you're certified? I'm not trying to be smart, but maybe you can share some stories and provide a bit more value instead of just telling us that an additional $200 is only a one time fee and a small price to pay ... It might be a small price, but the $150 seemed like a reasonable price for me to be allowed to post (at least more than 1 per month) promo pics. It should be my right to decide whether or not I see value in becoming certified. Why even have a premium membership if this is the case? It will just be certified guys and guests if that's the case. And if that is what you and Chris decide, than so be it, but don't sell premium memberships and than take away it's value.

Again, this is with all due respect ... I never say much about anything on this forum but this one just doesn't seem right ... thanks in advance for your consideration Gary.

Gary, I rambled on that previous posts while you must've submitted the "don't shoot the messanger" ... I guess that should be directed at Chris then, but since you're the messanger it's worded (not directed) at you ... no disrespect intended, just sharing my thoughts! Hopefully Chris reads it.

Mike you hit the nail on the head. It does look like an italian shake down. You obviously paid to be a premium member with being able to post whatever pics and promo whenever you want. That was the rule when you signed up and it should be upheld until your yr is up atleast. Mostly all of the (secret info) is openly on the other forums that have free memberships and allow you to promo post whenever you want and also show up on the search engines just as quick as they do from here. Gary there is no way you can think this is right.

 I am not insulting anyone, just posting what Chris wants to put into the forum rules. Who did you pay $150.00 to?  Premium membership is only $100.00.;

My membership is coincidentally up this month, so I'm not gonna bark too loud ... and I'll probably even pay to be certified mostly because I like interacting and sharing ideas with a lot of guys on this site. Like you said Mike, there are other free forums that can have my promo up on Google just as fast as here ... I just think if this is how we're going to proceed, and I do care about this forum, I don't see any value in premium membership. It should be guest or certified, and if that's the case, those that paid the $150 should be allowed to post as many promo posts as they want until their membership expires ... that's the fair thing to do, I don't see how anyone can possibly disagree.

If you read my 2nd message, I clearly stated that it was directed at Chris, so let's not get all defenseive and turn this into something it's not Gary.

And I couldn't recall the price, $150, $100 whatever ... hopefully you get the point, and again, I thought I was more than clear (and cordial) in stating that this wasn't personally directed at you.

I try limiting my promo posts, I understand that is a luxury of a certified member. My post yesterday was for everyone to the moss cracking the shingle. I also agree with Hank, I thought the RCIA wanted more postings. Put 1 a month sounds good, until I get the certification.

Dan, you became a premium member to be able to post pics and put up your links. Being certified was supposed to allow you to post in the state certified section.

I became a premium member to really learn the trade. Posting my pictures is just something I like to do. Posting promos, that helps my business, which was also the reason I became a premium member.

Gary said this: It has been brought to the attention of Chris and myself that some changes need to be made regarding the posting of job related pictures and the lack of interest in becoming certified by a large number of members. The following change is the result of a lengthy discussion between Chris and myself. As of today, April 14, 2012, Premium members will only be allowed one promo post per month in the roof cleaning picture section. There are several reasons behind this decision. Interest in becoming certified has greatly decreased due to the unlimited promo posts that have been allowed. Gary who brought this to your attention? I know you say your just the messenger but in your first two sentences you state that you and chris both decided this( lenghty conversation). I think you played a part in the decision making just like chris. Just like mike stated what is the sense of premium membership if it does nothing for you. It looks like either guest or certified is the direction this place is heading. And that would be okay if the certification had more merit.

I took my blood pressure after my rant and the meter said "CALL 911"

And thanks for eliminating the new promo post rule.

Ok Guy's, you members are RIGHT!

RCIA made a deal with you guys that you could make as many promo posts as you wanted when you became premium members. We will always honor that deal.

Post Away roof cleaning

Please, do not make Gary out to be "the bad guy" here. Gary and I both had a talk yesterday about the lack of posts in the certified directory section.

That is our main concern.

 Chris and Gary,

Thank you for listening to the feedback from the  members. There is no good or bad guy in this. I've never met anyone on this board(yet) but I feel as if I've been adopted in to a family, who actually cares.

Hank

My Dad was one of the very first auto mechanics to get Certified by NIASE.

Back then, it was called "National Institute For Automotive Service Excellence" It has since been shortened to ASE Certified.

We owned a Gulf Gas Station back when Florida had Inspection Stations that actually checked your brakes, lights, and overall mechanical condition before you were granted an inspection sticker.

Our Gas Station was right around the corner from the inspection station, and when cars failed the inspection because the brakes pulled, they often stopped in our shop.

Many had leaking wheeel cylinders, or worn brake shoes. Before Dad got Certified, we lost work to the car dealers. But dad used Certification as a way to convince our potential customers that we knew what we were doing, and had the Certification to Prove it!

Roof Cleaning Certification is in it's Infancy right now. However, even after nearly 20 years in the roof cleaning business here in Tampa. not a month goes by that I don't STEAL a customer or 2 by the fact that I am Certified.

Of course, our A+ BBB Rating don't hurt, nor does the fact we won the Chamber Of Commerce Business Of The Year in 2002.

It is called shooting bullets, you never know WHAT Bullet you shoot that is going to convince a customer to go with YOU vs your Competitor!

I can hand you a Gun, but it is up to YOU to shoot it. It is up to YOU to make Certification mean something.

Go ahead, listen to the dumb funks who tell you Certification is meaningless.

Other Mechanics used to tell my Dad that chit too.

But guess what ? Once they saw our service bays full of customers, they got Certified real quick.

BBB Membership, a good website, a Yellow Page Ad, Networking, Certification, etc, etc are all pieces of the puzzle for your success as a roof cleaner.

If you can't sell Certification, perhaps you need to learn how to sell ?

It was a MISTAKE, Gary and I funked up blankstare

We meant well, but we were wrong. RCIA listens to it's members.
