I took my accumulators Out. They started to leak at the joints with those cheap clip on fittings. They wound up being more of a nuisance than anything. Plus it's debatable that they actually offer any benefit to helping the pump last longer. They're sitting in the junk pile along with 3 fat boys. Fat boys left me to die 1 too many times. The 5850's are working ok for me so far this year.
If you really think out the concept of the accumulator as it pertains to dialing down a 12v, an accumulator would have to considerably larger and flexible to hold enough fluid under pressure to allow a pump to not cycle in a dialed down mode. Another way of looking at it is: how many feet of flexible hose equals the amount of flexible space of an accumulator? Your 100' or 200' hose is probably a better accumulator. Just sayin. It's all my personal opinion with no factual backing.

I agree with Ed about the accumulator mine is also sitting on a shelf I wasted the money. I can't seem to remember who told me to get one? the 5850's do most of my work Ed but I would have a fatboy for the unexpected or windy days.
Buy spare clips. I was on the job and they leaked. I wrapped them with as much Teflon as I can fit and shoved them back in . Nothing worked except elimination.
If the relays are they same ones that come with the fatboy, you better stock up and make sure your guys know how to replace the them. When the relay blows, AND IT WILL, the pump loses its ability to shut off once it gets to the rated shut off pressure. The pump will just run until your weakest connection pops.

Thanks for the post Ed, we were going to order one but now I will not waste the money.
We used 5850 for a couple of years and loved it! We setup our new system with a fatboy. Not sure if they are worth the extra money, considering you can just about get two 5850's for the price of one fatboy.

Fuk, that's very dangerous! How can a relay blow OPEN ?
In the FloJet Pentaflex, the relay is epoxy coated and underneath the pumps body. In fact, it is part of the housing at the bottom of the pump that the pump sits on.
Bob said they are not easy to change like a Fat Boy's relays are, so he modifys them to us some external auto parts store relay.
I haven't even opened the boxes to look at them yet.
I have a stubborn Romainian guy working who yesterday decided to dial down the 5850. It overheated then shut down. But restarted after it cooled. Ive been meaning to ask Bob if there is some kind of thermal protection. If that were a Fatboy i would have been screwed. When I can get a chance to breathe I am going to plumb my other 2 trucks like the box truck. I have the 5800 and the 7800 (2gpm) plumbed into the same line. If the 5800 ever craps out I just flip another switch and im rolling again. It also allows me to do detailed cement work where landscaping is an issue. Its my greatest achievment so far (except for that girl in High school at the graduation party).

Hey Ed I am thinking about that 7800 2 gpm to use on walkable roofs. If I can walk it I dont need so much pressure. I am sure that girl is looking back fondly as well!
