OSHA has been showing up at a few of my competitors jobs the last few months and the fine for not having fall protection is $7500.00. They could drive by and see a roof cleaner up on a roof and the fine would be the same. Any roof over 6 feet off the ground requires fall protection as of 6-16-2011. If you are estimating the job, if you spend more time than it takes to set up fall protection on the roof (15 min) then you as an estimator would need to have fall protection. Here's a photo of a harness system that's available for $120.00 - $140.00. It's made by Protecta and it's called Compliance in a Can. Probably won't get along with the SH forever, but it should keep your hard earned cash in you pocket and not the feds.
