Any experience with Roof Manufacturers Algae Resistant Warranty Claims?

Did 2 last year. In both cases they contacted me. Found me on the web,due to the great SEO here at RCIA. Get your site set up right, or possibly call the manufacturers and give them your contact info.

We recently did one. The roof was only 2 years old. We were contacted by the homeowner, and they took care of the claim. The homeowner paid us and submitted our bill for their reimbursement.

I've talked with a couple of the claims departments (Tamko and Gaf) and they said to furnish an estimate with the claim, which I have, so hopefully they will pay off that estimate or come close. Sounds like a good idea to contact the manufacturer to see if I can become a preferred cleaner. In the past, I've just passed on the AR claims and most homeowners don't know who to call and the manufacturers were of little help in suggesting roof cleaners. So far I've helped 20 past customers file the claims and I'm in a wait and see mode to how they will close these.

Becoming a Premium Member was a no-brainer! Where else could I get so much info? No where!

2 homeowners that I talked to said their shingle manufacturer required them to remove shingles to send to them before any warranty work was done. Any of you come across this or was the person they talked to trying to make it inconvenient for them to have their roof cleaned via their warranty?

Tamko requires two shingles to be removed but will pay up to $100.00 for a contractor to remove them. GAF (which bought ELK in 2008) only requires proof of purchase (suppliers invoice, contract, etc..), if you can't provide proof of purchase, then they require two shingles and will pay up to $50.00. It definitely makes it an inconvenience, but since I'm a roofer, it's another revenue source. They also require photos of the affected area.

that is a quick answer! I have to find my paperwork and see what brand of shingle I have. thanks for a quick reply this is a nice website to look around in.

9 years ago in Texas, Algae Resistant roofs were optional, NOT ALL roofs came with AR warranties. Today all shingles marketed in Houston are AR and some of the AR shingles work for over 10 years. When you find your paperwork, make sure you purchased AR shingles. Not sure if all shingles in Florida were AR 9 years ago. Then my suggestion is to hire a professional to clean your roof.
