Moderator, if this isn't a worthy topic, please remove it.  Thanks.

Darn if I can remember how to tie various knots when I need them most.

The animation at the following site is superb and makes for a good refresher course.

Practicing some of these may be just the diversion now and then:

To me its very relevant (if relevant to this business, its a relevant post). I constantly need to tie down equipment and have a very easy/high tension "ratchet" type that I can'texplain but will search for or make a step-by-step detailed drawing of. To me its an absolute "must know". Maybe I'll take a pic and someone can tell me what type it is.

Good post Al.  Definitly comes in handy tying  down ladders properly.

(using bungee cords are a bad idea, the "give" of them allows the bouncing weight of the ladder to stretch the bungee's rubber to a fail piont and eventually snap and send the ladder flying off. A rareity but when it happens on the expressway...  bad bad news, cruising at 75mph and having to swerve due to an extension ladder on the L.I.E. disbelief)

Posts of the various kinds is what makes RCIA go around. What is important to one may not be to another, but thought and ideas are readily shared here. Post away!

Kim,

When I search for knots, this thread doesn't appear.  Did I post it in the wrong place, or how are things indexed?

Thanks,

Al

Al, I'm not sure if tagging is the only way for the search to pick it up or if the search feature actually looks in the body of the post.

Sorry.  Thought it might be helpful.

In one of the Werner classes, for example, they show tying off the bottom rung of your ladder, inward, to a spike or porch post, etc.  It's a good idea, of course, but I'm out of practice on tying good knots that I can rely on where life and limb are involved.

The link provided gives excellent animation on tying various knots you may not be familiar with, that I thought might be helpful.  Most of the knots I tie end up jamming and taking forever to untie.  When tied correctly, that doesn't happen.

Tom, do we tag items for indexing somehow, or is that by automation in the forum software?

Al;

When you make a post, there is a place about half way down on the left side that says "tags". put some keywords in there so the forum and google know where to put it. Not sure if you can go back and add them once posted.  Try and see or start a new thread.

Gary

Thanks Gary.  A gold tag icon still appears next to two threads I created.  One thread offers free Werner ladder safety training.  I'll try tagging it.

Should I just enter "ladder training" or "ladder safety" or something else.  Do you have a preference on how we tag things, or should we just use our best judgment?

Your choice. You can use 4-5 if you want, separated by commas.
