KURI Tec Hose Inside Disintegrating?

In August of 2010, I bought 200' of the red KURI tech hose from Lori at PWP..... I've not talked to PWP about it yet, but something strange has been happening on the last few jobs (roofs and housewashes)...... I am using the All-Flo (also from PWP) and the tri banger with the tips from Lori......  sometimes pieces of black material are ejected from the hose .... looks like small pieces of black electrical tape, maybe 1/2 to 1 inch in size - but its rubber.  its thin enough to be forced out the 15 deg. fan nozzle..... the only thing I can think of is it is the inside of the red KURI hose degrading....

anyone else seen this?

I have that set up and the last time I used my system it had sat for about 4 days. When I fired it up I had a really dark(black) solution come out.Maybe a quart or 1/2 gallon? I was thinking that smething was breaking down inside as well??I always flush my system with about 15 gallons of clean water so I'm not sure what's going on.

Flushing the system works wonders. Leaving the SH in the system is not a good idea.

Yes, I have seen this too. At first I thought it was my pump coming apart, but it is the hose. I never saw this when we were using AG Hose. It seems harmless enough, we just cleared our nozzles, and kept spraying. The SH is finding the weaknesses in the hose. This is what is happening. Unless someone threw used condoms in your tank yawn

There is no "question", the AG Hose lasts longer, but it is much stiffer, and harder to use in comparasion to the red and blue Kuri Tec Hose.

It is exactly like car tires, soft tires ride better, hard tires ride like shit, yet last longer.

We get about a year and a 1/2, up to 2 years out of our Kuri Tech hoses. I have went 3 years with AG hose.

You can get it from Bob or Lori. As Chris said, it is a little tougher to work with but it doesn't kink as much and lasts a lot longer.

Personally, I like AG Hose best, it lasts longer, and does not kink nearly as much. Yes, it is harder to use, but in my day I had forearms like Pop Eye. I no longer clean roofs, and my employees greatly prefer the Red and Blue Kuri Tech hose.

I didn't get 50 roofs out of a new Kuri tech hose. Pulling it across the trailer rail caused pin holes to erupt along the entire length. I did a number on a nice lawn. I bought a bunch of the 120 ft garden hose from Sam's for under $30 ea. and am still on the first one.

i have bought about 10 of the Sams 120' 5/8 hose...its awesome! Keep your receipt and label and they will replace when it gets messed up. I do not use them for roof cleaning but for filling tanks, warehouse use, I did use one for about a month to transfer SH to the trucks every morning and it still works fine.

Just to update this thread about the Kuri Tech Series K1154....

I spoke with a Kuri Tech Hose manufacturer rep this morning - hose experts....  I told them the problem we are having with the inside of the hose disintegrating.....

The website with the specs for the Series K1154 hose says "For MILD water-soluble chemicals, or air supply line"  see copy of spec sheet below:

Series K1154/K1156

General purpose PVC hose

Construction:
  • Tube - Black PVC compound
  • Reinforcement - High tensile strength yarn
  • Cover - PVC compound, available in two colors:  K1154 - red / K1156 - blue
Features:
  • Economical, flexible and lightweight....all sizes are within UPS weight limits for significant freight savings
  • Excellent abrasion resistance
  • U.V. and weather resistant
  • Non-marking pin-pricked cover
  • Silicone-free core and cover
  • Complies with RMA's Class B designation for medium/high oil resistance
  • One-piece packaging, no random lengths
Applications:
  • Transfer of air, water and mild water soluble chemicals
  • Ideal for in-plant applications that require an economical general purpose hose
  • Excellent air supply line for pneumatic tools and paint spray systems.

Service Temperature Range:+14degree.jpgF (-10degree.jpgC) to 150degree.jpgF (+65degree.jpgC)

Rep says this hose should not be used for SH.... wont stand up to it.

Problem is, this is what Lori at Pressure Washer Products is selling/recommending in their Roof Cleaners section of their website, and what she personally recommended to me, and to others in posts here on this forum.  I purchased 200' less than 1 year ago from her, and its shot.  and she did not return my call from over a week ago, nor respond to the posts I made directly to her on this board.

I called PWP this morning, and still unable to speak to Lori, and in the spirit of their stellar customer service in this matter, when I explained all above to "Dianne", her reply was "so what do you want *me* to do about it?"

The rep is sending me a sample of the Kuri Tech A1661 hose, rated for agricultural chems, has an extruded Poly liner... comes in 5/8", but its $1.69 a foot......

I think the service a PWP leaves a lot to be desired, and I personally wont be calling them in the future....

The old saying "You Get what you pay for" is always true. AG Hose is better, but can cost DOUBLE what the Kuri Tech does. It is also stiffer, initially, and never gets as easy to use as the Kuri tech. We have always got a year and 1/2, up to 2 years with the Kuri Tech, never any pin hole problems.

It is on both of our trucks. Nothing is 'forever' when it comes to spraying what we spray.

Kuriyama rates the K1154 hose as E for excellent with sodium hypochlorite so I wouldn't necessarily blame distributors. I'd call Kuriyama and complain to them and ask why if they have it rated as such are multiple people experiencing that it doesn't hold up as claimed.
