i have a few ladders but i need to get a ladder standoff or stabilizer. what is the correct name of this and where's a good place to get one? thanks
We really like the "Spider" stabilizer. It adjusts to numerous positions, and has a wide base of support (very secure and stable at the top of a roof). Check it out at:

Sorry for the poor quality camera phone pic. Here is the one I had custom made for my companies. I sell these currently for $90.00 pluss shipping. I will have several of these at the SC event end of Sept. They are all heavy guage aluminum with a base plate. Requires U bolts for mounting. Unless u run it over or loose it its the last one you will ever buy.

I just bought that one. I like being able to remove them for easier ladder storage.

That is the one we use as well. The quick connect on it is awesome. However, I have a feeling ours are not going to last much more than 2 years.

That is sweet. I can see many uses where that can be used where the others can't. Thanks, I love this one. Just don't love the price.

Bidding a job that has very wide overhangs and I cannot put the ladder on the gutters nor on the roof(asbestos). Looking for a way to keep the ladder 3' out from the house. Anybody got a solution to my problem?
Check out LadderMax. They have extensions that go over 4' and also allow you to place your ladder at corners. Just bougt the LadderMax Pro and I love it. Can be removed or attached in about 15 seconds. Bought mine on Ebay.
Thanks Gary, my problem in not the width but the depth. Ladder Max attachments only goes to a depth of 24". I have one of their units which I like and have emailed them for their thoughts
First of be very cautious cleaning one of those roofs. Secondly why can you not put the ladder on the gutters? I don't do it myself anymore, but you could always strap the ladder to the gutter so it will stay in place and not scratch the gutter.

I may be wrong but they sell a 24" bar set up that attaches to the already 19" standard system, which would make it 43".
Cut 3' - 4' sections of PVC Piping, put PVC end caps on one end and place the open end of the piping over the ladder stabilizer arms. This will act as an extension to the stabilizer and keep you far enough away from the roof edge.

I have used AC's ladder stabilizer for almost 2 years and it is very stable.
