you guys must be rolling down there in Southern Jersey, I had a customer send me to somers point last week to wash a house, I told him I didnt work down there but he said he would pay me 400.00 bucks to wash a ranch, lol I said ok.
when I got there I cleaned 4 in a row they said my prices per cheap. 150.00 dollars for a ranch to wash the siding and 100.00 dollars to whiten the gutters.
Don't worry I don't cover that area.

Robert Dan is from south Jersey too, do you really expect him to tell you how much he charges?
Honestly it's not recommended to discuss prices here on this forum for many reasons. prices can vary from county to county and the public reads this information.
Robert just a suggestion.
Well he was kind of proud of the price, (since he posted it $900) so why not put the ppsqft. Sure seems to be a lot of hostility here. I thought this was a learning forum. Price point is vital to any business.
I'm just following the rules Robert, the moderators asked us not to post prices. It makes sense to me.
i personally think that posting prices is a good idea. its understandable that prices vary from state to state or even county to county due to chemical pricing, insurance, etc. but this forum is here to unite all roof cleaners in the country as one, therefor posting prices should'nt be a secret. so if you choose to post your pricing it helps others especially a new comer like me. i personally would like to be informed of what other fellow roof cleaners are charging in my area, so i won't set my prices too low causing this business to lose it's value. i know everything has it's pros and cons and will totally respect RCIA if not posting prices is one of your rules.

Getting back to Jeff's comments, Through out the forum he makes a lot of valid points. There are some things I dont agree on , but on this issue I agree with him. I think that accidents happen in a flash, and almost all accidents should be prevented with some commen sense and safe work practices. There are many people who work without the proper insurances, and The home owner could be liable. A one person business cannot get workmens comp in Pa. Even though he works by himself, I always like his input.

great another south jersey roof cleaning company!!!!!!!
Thats kinda my point about the price. Ive been pressure washing about 15 years. I can only lose so many opportunities due to customers wanting their roofs cleaned too. There are a lot of knuckle heads out their High pressure cleaning peoples roofs. I bid a job to pressure wash and clean the gutters on a 3000 sq ft house about 3 weeks about ago. The lady was under the impression I was going to clean the roof too. (All for $325) She said the last guy didnt clean the roof as she thought he would, so he was nice enough to pressure wash it. He showed her!! I told her it would probably cost at least another $325 to do her roof correctly, and to never allow someone to pressure wash it. Then referred her to a reputable guy nearby. As far as another roof guy in SJ. There seems to be plenty of black roofs out there. Ill be the last one to go out and low ball. But there is a price point where the market will expand and maximum profit returned. Of course all costs have to be considered: Insurance, labor, chemicals, gas, equipment. Im sure Dan would be happy getting $900 for all his jobs, but he under stands reality. I have a good paying job, I don't need to cut into anyones business out there. Im just building for an addition to my future retirement income.

Yes accidents can happen in a flash. Nobody disputes that we should all be safe. We should all wear a harness when needed. We should all carry insurance. But for someone to berate other people about being unprofessional over and over again, calling them clowns and insulting them numerous times, and then telling everyone he works ALONE!!!?! Talk about unsafe and unprofessional. If someone came to my house to work on my roof ALONE, I would throw them out on their ass, I dont care how much they THINK they know.
There have been plenty of times Jeff and I havent seen eye to eye, and alot of times I reflect and realilze maybe I could have gone about my posts a little differently. But all the lone ranger's credibility is lost in this thread.
Ok, I just wanted to say that in all this heated talk a lot of good discussion has happened and a lot of good points were made on safety. Jeff please don't leave your advice helped build my roof cleaning service to what it is today. Jeff has been there and back, he had a bunch of guys before, and it's not for everybody. I too wish you had a helper, but your choice is yours and I know you run a good show up there by not walking on the roofs and using a weaker safer mix and taking your time. This is good practice and advice, especially for newbies to get a feel for things. We need conflicting views to help show all angles of the real dangers.
As much as we all may have anger at times,I am proud to see that this is all spawnig from the recent injuries that occured in the last two weeks. I am amazed at the passion being shown for a total strangers saftey. Jeff I hope you stay and I hope your knowledge and ezperience along with most everyone else here will continue to promote and grow this industry through our proud and sometimes conflicting RCIA.

Yes and i understand reality as well. I have charged and gotten 2000 and up for roofs but most are in the 400-700 range. But most consumers who are uneducated of how to properly have the roof cleaned get a huge sticker shock when they get the price. I just do not want roof cleaning to become how pressure washing has become and that is slash and cut the next guys throat to get the job. I do not do that nor will i ever do that. I was just breaking stones on the other comment and if you wanna shoot the chit give me a call.
I know guys here that say 400-500 is lucky for a 3000sqft roof, so they charge less. We routinely get 600-700 for the same size roof. It is a big difference in the way we present ourselves to the customers.

Jeff is a good professional and knows his stuff. he put a lot of hard work into this site and his name. I think we should respect him and his decisions.
First of all nobody said anything about disbility which you should all have as well for your employees. SHort term and long term. To give you an idea how much it is I pay about $60 per month for me and my right hand man. This includes short term, long term and 50 grand in life insurance. Yes that is for non work related injuries but in this line of business your knees are going to go and so is your shoulder...... It's dirt cheap use it.
Whatever Jeff does he can do, he doesn't clean alone all of the time but when its safe. I trust his judgement and his professional credibility. He may be a bit outspoken sometimes but he is a good professional.
I think his comments stem from frustration with business ethics. Jeff tries to run a good all around business which has good ethical standards. This is just my opinion because I feel I have learned a lot from him and I know he is a good veteran on this site and in this business who just wants tighten up the ship a bit and make sure this is the respected website it is know to be and was born to be.

Jeff doesnt want to see anyone get hurt, therefore he makes it a point to look the part and be safe.
I do not think that OSHA hsa a ruling of 8' and over must be 2 people. I worked as a maint. tech for the cable company and worked in bucket trucks at over 30' alone. I have worked 28' ladders on the side of the road alone as well. They DO require that you follow all safety guidelines, but I think the only rule they have for over 8' is a hardhat.
Prices, we do not post them in the public forum for the public to see. I asked Chris once to move a post that I HAD STARTED to the in the shade. He did, but he said "whats next? are we going to tell the world how we &%$@ our ol' ladies?"
Be smart about what you post here....your next customer may be reading this. They will learn that you DO NOT use a step off, have safety in mind, and they now know what you charge.
Jeff is one of the top guys on here, thats not an opinion, its the truth.
