I know a lot of the guys using diaghram style pumps recomend the delvan 5850 or fatboy, but as a beginer and doing my best to control run-off and chemical usage I decided to use the 2+ gallon a minute pump. Am I going to regret that decision or are there any issues (problems)you guys can forsee?
Ive gone from the pump ups, Yea, pump ups to the 2gpm delavan. I'm very happy with it. Hardly any waste comming out the downspouts. Just wish I could shoot farther with it. Very good control of how much and where.
I started with the fat boy and think it shoots alot of chems out, and i have to work fast. Overall i dont regret my choice. I had to shoot a steep roof on a windy day and that saved me. I had no problem shooting the 20' roof from the ground. I did flood the roof some but i got the job done. I have a 2gpm dele too and hooked that up and it was way to weak for me. I only use it to spot treat flatwork. Its just a matter of getting used to it. Just like going up to 8gpm from 3.5

hey I have been doing roofs for awile and I love my 2gpm. I use the same pump for acid washing tanks and chems for concrete degreasing at restaurants with no problems. I love how I don't have any runoff and hardly any overspray
Im actually considering moving DOWN to a 2-3 gpm pump from the Fatboy.
tell us more
My only reasoning for this is because I have a crew, and am expanding. I hope to have 2-3 trucks working 5 days a week within a year. I want to lower the risk of damage as much as possible by minimizing the runoff.

I built Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa on a small Shurflo 12 volt pump. But I always had enough sense to use 5/8 Hose at least. Roof Cleaning is not a road race, and when you are new at it, being fast can be a disadvantage. You want people to see you out cleaning roofs
Now we're a little different in that: 1. We only do 1 story tile roofs (mostly barrel) 2. We don't bag gutters unless near a water source 3. We do maybe 10 roofs on a good week and average more like 6-7 4. Our clients are extremely picky retirees and "shooting" isn't an option.
For what we do it's perfect. Tips and hose size are important. I run 3/4 to the pump and 1/2 to the tip. The tips sizes are a bit trickier to nail down, trial and error is the best teacher.
Great for "popcorn" landscape edging, gutters, soffits and facia, windows, etc. and it will do a roof.

I have a small trailer. Can only hold so much weight. I use my 2gpm now for, not just roofs, but stripping decks, and brightening, applying chem for washing concrete and brightening. My set-up works great for me. I just want to shoot further, sometimes. I'm going to make a long wand? Try that out.
Remember guys,...the air pump has a broader range of nozzle choices. You can slow these down to a trickle when needed. It sounds to me as though these 12v pumps have a minimum nozzle size,....which may be why starting with a small GPM pump is needed when considering 12v.
The longevity and simplicity of an air pump and the flow control really make these a better overall pump,...ESPECIALLY for beginners.

Jeff, here you go posting this and I just ordered a Fatboy!!!!
Just kidding, I know you are right, the wife didn't see it that way, $1000.00 for the things I wanted from PWP, without the compressor, tank. Add $700.00 for the comp. and $170. tank
$600.00 for the set up and box set-up, just needing a battery, tank. Add $100.00 for battery, same as above for the tank.
I hope to line up at least 4 jobs, and get the air, as I agree its whats best, the last thing I want is a dead battery or fuses blowing on a job!!!!
I told her its gonna take money to make money........but she wins everytime!!!
I feel for you there. Im trying to keep what I make hush hush this yr from the wife. I want to get a full rig going to add to my pressure wash land scape biz to start doing roofs. My wife found out I made landscape job this week andshe was ready to go on a shopping spree. LOL

well I set my truck up with two pumps on it. I have a 5850, and a fat-boy pump. I have it set up so I can switch pumps for whatever job I am doing. Works great. Most the homes I am on are one story easy roofs, but some have been tall two story and the fat boy just makes those a lot easier.

I really thought I was going to have a problem with run off with the All Flo since it has such a high GPM output. But being able to control the output at the handle and being able to switch nozzles has made it so easy to control run off.
If you spray from the gutter line you just stop a few feet short of the edge of the roof and allow the love on the higher portion of the roof to dry somewhat before you spray the edge along the gutter. This really helps with run off.
I found this complete pump set up. See what you guys think? Its guaranteed a year running chemicals of the roof cleaning business type. It was solely created for roofers. check it out. http://sunbrite.stores.yahoo.net/rocopa.html
