Which Route to go?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to decide on which route to take.

I can purchase the box truck in the photo for $3500 or use one of our siding trailers.

The think I like about the box truck is that it would make for a great billboard and it has a tommy lift on if for the drums.  I know I will need to vent the box.  Those that have a box truck I would like your input.

I like the natural venting of the trailer, but hooking up to it each time might get old down the road.

Thoughts?

Get the box truck… the signage is priceless, getting the box truck is not a tattoo it is not permanent so if it dose not work out just sell it and go with the trailer….people on this board are using box trucks so I say go for it and get it wrapped or letter it up,.

i'd go with the truck. that trailer doent seem like its gonna suit for roof cleaning too well. the high sides seem a little impractical.

with out even questioning my self I would go with the truck if it's in reasonable condition.

that trailer really looks heavy you would have to have a heavy duty truck to pull it, and besides the sides are to high.

Box truck = Everything is able to be locked up. You can install racks for everything you need including tools and extra parts.
Trailer = Open for all to see/steal.

Box truck = Hop in and go
Trailer = Hook and unhook everyday?

Box truck = big advertising
trailer = not so much

box truck = smaller footprint
trailer = longer and harder to park

box truck downfall = If you need to run for anything while on the job, truck has to go
trailer benefit = unhook and take pickup truck and work can still continue with helper.

Even though I still do the trailer thing, I WANT a boxtruck for all of the above reasons.

I would go box truck, I have an isuzu box truck, 14 ft and love it. Just keep in mind of your spills, I put down the hercules liner from northern tool. It is a do it your self bed liner, put two coats on the floor and 3 ft up the wall. I try to keep all leaks from happening just because of rust and corrosion, plus SH is a killer when it leaks in your truck. If you want some pictures of the inside of mine just send me a private message and I would be happy to send it to you.

But then again, if you go with the trailer.....If you show up to the job and you can't wash the shingles, you can rip of the shingles and throw them all in that trailer. : ) That is one heavy duty trailer. Looks like it weighs too much to drag around for roof cleaning.

I for one love enclosed trailers and to each their own as we say. I have 24' enclosed trailers and love them. Reason I love them you all may be asking yourself is this, it's easy to get them to and from a job when my truck is in the shop or lets say I'm on a job thats going to take some time, I can drop my trailer set up shop and go set up on another site or do estimates etc. It's just easier I feel to get to the job if your main means of transportaion goes down, cause you can rent a pick up to move your trailer or borrow a buddies or family members truck for the day or two. I just prefer the trailer vs. the box truck, cause when it goes down your done till its back up and running and if the engine goes your down for a week. But like I said in the beginning, to each their own :) I'm sure you'll make the best of whatever route you take ! Goodluck my friend..

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm going with the box truck. We have two owners at All Craftsmen, so we will always have a second company truck at the job site to run errands if needed. The truck is in great shape and we work in the same building as the owner. He used it for delivery appliances but doesn't deliver anymore. I think were getting a good deal. Any interior pics would be great. Thanks

The fumes can be killer and the corrosion can really eat it up... If you keep that in mind when you build it should work out good enough. You could always switch it to a flat bed like Apple does??
If you run an Aodd pump make sure your compressor can breath fresh air instead of chlorine fumes. Compared to that trailer you already have I would choose the truck.

Sounds good Roofie! I'm workin on a trailer, an open one. I like an open trailer cause you can just get to everything easier. Plus I cant afford a box trailer yet. The sinage would be awesome! Plus you can lock up the trailer too. No thieves! Heres another idea about box trailers. Days before you do the job you could park, with permission on their property! ALL the neighbors be watching to see what is about to happen! A box trailer I think is better than a truck or open trailer.
