Moving up to 3/4" hose for my Fatboy
Permalink

I have had some relay problems with the Fatboy that I am using, which I am attributing to using 5/8" hose and too small spray tips(#30).  I am in the process of moving up to 3/4 hose from 5/8 for my Fatboy pumps.  My question is, do I need to pay attention to the I.D. of the connections on my hose reel and other parts of the system as well?  They look like 1/2" at best on the inside.  I also have a 2 way garden hose ball valve between the pump and hose reel, and it is probably 1/2" inside.  Do I need to maintain 3/4"I.D. from the pump to the ball valve at the end of the hose?

Do I need to be concerned using these connections with the Fatboy?  Like I said, I am moving to 3/4" for the supply line and hose everywhere else including the ball valve that my spray tips(#50 and#60 orifices :)) fit in, which are 1/4" mpt by the way.

The larger hose will spray better.
The 1/2 hose reel is what we use.
Larger would be better, but where do you find on3 you can afford.
I would replace the garden hose ball valve with a larger one.
The 5/8 hose would have worked, I suspect your tip sizes were the problem.
Seek out Mike Sullivan from pressure washing pro, he knows a lot about Delavans.
We use air diapraghm pumps.

I believe that the minimum for the fat boy is 5 gpm. I run 4 gpm nozzles for the 5850. I think Mike runs 6 or 7 GPM tips.

Ben, I don't think the hose is your problem, it is probably your nozzles. I think the inlet and outlet on the Fatboy are 1/2" and the manufacturer reccomends 1/2" hose. So I'm not sure. I have 5/8 hose and have not had any problems yet.

I think the small nozzles are definitely part of the problem, but I have been wanting to go up to 3/4 on my hose anyway, just to take some of the load off of the pump.

You cannot drive a School Bus through the opening of a Doghouse! Even if you used a Firehose and the same small tip you would have the same problems. Change out to a larger tip.

The problem is his nozzles.
The main application for the Delevan Pump is not roof cleaning.
It is car washes, RV'S, and industrial applications.
1/2 inch hose is fine, in shorter lengths, and will "work" at longer lengths.'However, it will not work as good as larger diameter hose.

Thanks, guys.  I have since moved up to #50 and #60 nozzles, so I will see how that goes.

Thanks
