What Mixture Do You Use?

I'm sure some of you may use different things from time to time, but I am looking for what you primarily use.

I primarily use Apple Sauce. I have used Mike Sullivan's Apple Cider Sauce from time to time, but my primary use is Apple Sauce.

I use apple sauce cider almost exculsivly. I like the way the tsp thickens my mix up (and the cleaning power). Most roof I clean down here have no gutters which is a PITA. Only main prob I have though is if customer wants me to rinse...takes a real long time....and with the Florida rains i'm still not comfortable with not rinsing...working on that.

It's all in your mind brother. Just a mind game, if you beleive rinsing isn't neccesary than it isn't. If you beleive aliens control the world than they do, lol (extreme example).

Truely it is not neccesary and you can sell it as a preventative measure against future growth.

I use apple cider sauce as my main, but sometimes I only use SH and water, all depends on the job.

Lets see it we can make some more discussion about the different formulas.

The guys that do not use Borax now..... Did you ever use Borax?

How long are you getting out of your roofs without using Borax?

If you have used both for any period of time, did you notice that using Borax kept the roof cleaner longer?

This would probably be good discussion for people trying to make a choice as to which formula to use.

Borax is used to help prevent the algae from returning so quickly by staying trapped in the film of TSP on the roof. Borax is a natural type of biostat.

I have only really used the Apple Sauce in my PA roof cleanings formula so I cannot comment on the ability to keep a roof cleaned without using Borax. There are definitely enough guys on here who have cleaned with both to be able to make some comment.

Just trying to create some discussion.

Roof Cleaning Missouri uses Apple
cider sauce all the time. I had found that I was getting inpatience when we first started cleaning roofs and wanted to rinse and sometimes I would hit some spots again, Now I have faith in the mix and just wait it out for a good rain, I do let the home owner know whats going on and it all works out , Patience is the key some of the time.. It is fairly easy to tell if you missed a spot when you are finished spraying your love on verses a spot that has been sprayed but just needs rinsing which I have found turns a brownish in color depending on shingle..
After all that said , I vote APPLE CIDER SAUCE

I used to use Borax, but it does not dissolve well, so I quit using it.

I can not say whether or not using Borax has helped keep my roofs cleaner longer.

I can say using alcohol instead of borax has made a bigger difference in the speed and cleaning power it gives my roof cleaning mix.

APPLE CIDER SAUCE - Bleach, TSP, alcohol, and dawn works best for me!

Welllll! I am back again. Just use Sodium Hypo Chloride 10.2%. The reason you guys have to dump you chemicals is because you make up to much at a time and you add to much SH_t to it.

I make mine up 35 gallons at a time and the only other solution I add to it is H2o.

Oh! For the guy who bought the tarp big enough to cover Wrigley Field!

I just spent a half a day in Nashville putting a Pressure Cleaner into the roof cleaning business.

Equipment - Less than $500.00
My cost to come and train for a day... ( Not telling)

For all of you other folks who continue to mix 200 gallons at a time and add other cleaning products to your already GREAT SHC. Stop! It is like adding lemon juice to a lemon! Like adding Nitro to gun powder! Just doesn't make good since!

Like cleaning a roof in an electric storm..... Not very Logical!

You must only do small roofs 35gals ? and we use 12.5 SH, and apple cider & apple sauce has been proven to clean better than just SH . SH & water works but sauce & cider work a little better you do what you want but don't change the training methods of RCIA disbelief

There is nothing worse than having 200 gallons of mix go to waste, I understand the logic. Mix and go.

Theres no reason to mix 35gals when you know you will need 60 and if you know you'll need more for the day you may mix 100 or more , i don't think anyone is mixing 200gals when they only need 35 or 40 with no other jobs, if they are then they have some issues with themselves, and yes algae is dead after the sh is used but the tsp etc adds to the cleaning

Well hello palm beach roof cleaning. First I would like to know how you are an assistant administrator with 38 post? Second is, as an ADMINISTRATOR of RCIA, when a person informs others that the method approved of by RCIA is a waste of time you AGREE! " DEAD ALGAE IS DEAD ALGAE" No big deal that he mixes thirty at a time....I mix only forty at atime. But you have a guy....{ a really good guy, Vinny } who steps up to the plate with the TRAINING METHODS OF RCIA, and you side/agree with the person who says the formulas that RCIA suggest is NONSENSE! As a member,I challenge your appointment as an administrator. I also demand that you familiairze yourself with the teachings of RCIA. I would also like to see an apology to Vinny as well as all those practicing the RCIA rule of thumb! I would also like to hear from those who are in " Charge " as to why and how after only 38 post you are an administrator.

I think the reality of this topic is simple;
The RCIA recommends through various threads the use of "Apple Sauce" and a few variances. But everyone here I think aggrees that we may each have our own mix for our climate, availabilty of products etc...

I use SH, Dawn and Conqueror 103. My roof jobs stay clean approximately 3-4 years here in Pa. So extra logevity isn't a concern of mine like it may be for those in the more Southern climates.
There is a base pattern I believe the RCIA expects,...customer service and quality work are the only true expectations I believe.
I also use roller pumps, and the RCIA "recommends" air diaphragm pumps,...doesn't make me unqualified though.

There has to be experimenting and variances in methods for us all to learn from.

I use these boards to help and to also pick things up myself that may help my business,...always nice to see people ideas and experiments,...even when they fail.

Wow! I may not have an ego big enough for this business.

I found this forum and joined because you all seemed to share my business philosophy and work ethic.

I recently received a message from my new friend in southern MO telling me that only a few "Certified" cleaners exhist in my state. That means NO COMPETITION!

I am so thankful that you who are succeful have humbled yourselves to share your knowledge and expierience with me, a new guy.

Wow, sorry to start such a controversy? All I wanted to do was see what the predominant cleaning mixture was and create some conversation about it.

Conversation is usually constructive and can lead to new ideas. This conversation has gone to a destructive state and isn't doing anyone any good.

If you guys want to fight, you should do it privately.

I also spend time on these boards to educate myself and maybe help someone with a situation I may have run across. I'm not new to the roof cleaning business and I am by no means a veteran, but I help where I can and I learn when I can.

A lot of guys on this board are veterans and I usually let them speak when something is asked because they probably know more than me. I try not to post nonsense just to get my post numbers up. That seems silly.

Can we just try to keep on topic and leave the fighting out of it?

Your 100% right Brian, you posted a good topic and someone comes on and answers it by saying do it my way other wise your a jackass thats not what this site is about, if you have your way of doing it thats fine , don't tell people its a waste to do it any other way!
