Sounds like to me that bagging the gutters maybe the most effective.

Extreme heat, like what we have experienced the past month over the nation, helps the duct tape to almost melt on the gutters and can cause some peeling of paint.  but also old and moldy gutters can be a afactor as well.

Use velcro or rubber bands and nix the duct tape.

I am fairly new at this,I have my rig setup and working well thanks to Lori and Rex.As i was reading up on bagging your aug 2009 post presents me with a question about the proper procedure. It seems you are saying apply you mix and dont rinse let the rain do the job? I'm in Texas and it gets hot and humid and sometimes little rain unless we have a strom in the Gulf. ( I'm close to galveston ) Curious please respond thanks in advance John Pander BAY AREA ROOF CLEANING.

We tie the bag on to the gutter and then dump in to a 5gallon bucket to haul away. Works pretty well!

I read through all the posts on bagging and was getting concerned since we don't. I have always just done as Crystal Clean does.Water all drain areas thoroughly. They drain where they do for a reason. If you haul away where are you dumping?? I would think the best solution, IMHO, would be to let it filter naturally on the property.

I suppose that if you have been getting away without bagging gutters then you can stick with what works.  However, I'd imagine that you'd have to burn several hundred gallons of water to prevent damage.

There has got to be places where bagging gutters has got to be a MUST though right?  I mean I've seen gutters run directly onto deck and patios and right next to delicate shrubs.  I can't imagine NOT wetting the area AND bagging.

For the record, I use Velcro straps to "hold my bag".  I find that dealing with run-off to be the trickiest part of the entire roof cleaning process.

Gutter canes, regardless of what they're made of, solves these problems. If we are VERY worried about something we have gutter extensions that cost about $4 at HD.

No problems Yet....Maybe I need to knock on some wood,I'll just take off my hat for that!
Seriously though it's always been in the back of my mind waiting for that disaster call, but I carry 3 mil poly to cover anything I'm real concerned about burning and just keep everything wet.Especially at the root.I read somewhere that the key is allowing the roots to suck up tons of fresh water before you start which will prevent them from getting much of your mix before it filters away.

PS.     gutters around here are about 50/50.some homes don't have any!

Has anyone use 4" flexible piping connected to downspout and ran it to curb or to concrete slab than flushed out pipe and rinse down solution after cleaning roof ? I have read that some dump there run off at the street side. Many of the jobs I've been looking at are only 30-40' from curb side.

Do not ever get caught running used SH out to the street.  That is against the "Clean Water Act".  In Houston TX you can get a fine for first offense that will put you out of business and in the poor house...

I think a good question to ask about not running watered down SH is : Where do pool cleaners run there water when cleaning a pool? 25,000 gallons of SH. I used to clean out pools and I ran it right into the street. The rule was:Don't have your discharge hose out past the curb line. As long as it was draining into the customers yard then natural flow was allowed.Getting a fine was a matter of about two inches. The results were the same however.

regarding watering down SH, that only pertains to SH that is hitting vegetation, SH that goes into storm drains (ie water ways) is virtually impossible to water down because you have to make a significant change in the ppm of chemicals in the final body of water (which is millions of gallons). to do that you need to add millions of gallons of water to your discharge. its like trying to dilute a river or lake. its not practical. adding 100s of gallons of clean water to your discharge does virtually nothing to improve the ppm of your pollutants in the final body of water. does that make sense?

so its our policy not to let any waste water enter the streets/storm drains. after we bag downspouts we dispose of in gravel or landscaping.
