Close! The one I got is not as bulky and is lt.gray and blue. The oil port and regulator valve don't stick up as high. I'm not sure. I may have gotten their newer model. Also it is at 4gpm's not 3.5... Possibly an upgrade. All I know is the pump rocks and I just hope it lasts. I know Chris,,,,Nothing lasts forever with the LOVE!!!  no disbelief biggrin LOL.

Rinse it out right away, and you should be ok for awhile.
Comet has come out with several roof cleaning type pumps.
You must have the one that bolts right up to the motor ?
I saw two MC 16 models, and posted this one.

Larry, Listen to Chris and go rinse out that pump, you need it to last. What are you waiting for? Go rinse it out so it will last. Come on now.

Thats the one Chris. The whole thing was already together(pump and gear box). All we had to do was bolt it on in place of where the cat pump was on the motor. the only thing that was left was to hook up the supply line WITH FILTER and bypass line. Both are zip tied together so that I don't forget to drop the bypass line in the same tank. Hahaha! That would suck! We plumbed the feed line into a ball valve at my chemical reel. This way I can still use my sureflow whenever I need or want to. All I have to do is flip the handle to swithch. Kinda gives me the best of both worlds. Lucky for me that the 5.5 with the cat pump is brand new and not some worn out used up motor. I feel good knowing that the whole settup is brand new. I really think this is gonna be a huge plus for me as far as Roof Cleaning goes. I'm very excited. smile

LOL...Thats the first thing I did when I finished the Roof Cleaning Treatment Chris. I've always been in the habit of rinsing my surflows after each job so it's pretty much part of my routine. I need this pump to last me. The guy who works on all my equipment said that it would be a good idea to rinse it out but not to worry if I forgot because there are absolutly no metal parts inside the pump itself. I'm still not taking any chances though. I don't need to go out to my next roof Cleaning job and find out that it doesn't work. ArrrG! That would not be a good thing. I think all of Pinellas County Florida would hear me scream!

He is misinformed Larry about the Comet Roof Cleaning Pump.
The Valves/Springs and Diapraghm Bolts are all Stainless Steel.
They will resist the roof cleaning chemical, for awhile.
Just keep rinsing, and right away.

It would probably cause a tsunami. LOL... Seriously though. I'm not gonna pull the pump apart (yet) to see who is right or wrong. The guy who sells the pump that I got has been in business and in the same location for almost 35yrs and has been dealing with these and many other types of pumps since I was 10yrs old. He knows them inside and out and I know he wouldn't steer me in the wrong direction. Mostly for my own peace of mind I'm gonna make sure that it is rinsed out after each use just as I have done in the past with my other Roof Cleaning pumps. There is nothing worse than being in the middle of a Roof Cleaning and all of a sudden seeing a dribble coming out of your line. That usually means more $$. LOL...In some cases, more $ than what your making. OUCH!

The OLD John Blue DP 193 pumps HAD plastic valves and plastic coated stainless steel valve springs!
One of the lasted ME for a full year of cleaning 4 to 6 roofs a day, 6 days a week in Tampa.
Back in MY day, I was a roof cleaning mo fo, bad to the BONEbiggrin
But John Blue CHANGED the pump.
Larry, ALL these roof cleaning diapraghm pumps, INCLUDING the Comet Roof Cleaning Pump, are made in Italy!
It IS Possible, that Comet has plastic coated their internals ???
IF so, that will be a Gem of a Roof Cleaning Pump !!
But, if I were a betting Man, I doubt it.
Even so, they will last awhile for roof cleaning, as long as you rinse them out right away.
Hey, look at it this way ?
If it lasts 5 months, it will be worth it for how easy it makes roof cleaning ?

If the Comet pump only lasts me 5 months for Roof Cleaning then it will be the last Comet pump I buy!!!! I've made the leap to a gas powered Roof Cleaning pump for a reason. My 12 volts were only lasting 3-6 months. I will NOT go back to 12 volt but if need be, I'de look int the next level up of Roof Cleaning pumps if this one does not work out. I know that no pump will last forever under the harsh conditions that we introduce to them but I will be damned if I'm gonna keep paying big money for something that will only last me 5-6 months. I WAS told that if something does go wrong they are very easy and inexpensive to fix or to replace the parts which is telling me that at some point I can expect it to go down. (Can't run away from the inevitable!!) Hopefully that is the case and I don't have to replace the whole pump with a different one. I will keep everyone posted on how this pump performs. Hopefully it will serve as a deciding factor for someone later who plans on making the move to a better Roof Cleaning pump.

Hopefully, it will last longer ?
I did look, and the replacement parts are pretty cheap.
However, it is my experience that the poly in the roof cleaning pumps gets attacked by the roof cleaning chemicals, and leaks all over.
This limits the amount of times you can rebuild the pumps.
Plus, regulators fail when exposed to the roof cleaning chemicals.
It would be a GOOD idea to have a spare one ?

Good advice. I'll check into what the cost is for just the pump.

On your pump, the regulator is built into the roof cleaning pump!
This means you might be stuck with the Comet Regulator ?
IF it is a good regulator, you are OK, but even Stainless Steel Regulator Springs break !!
The ANSWER is to either have regulator springs made out of Hastelloy, OR to coat the springs with rubber or plastic to protect them from the roof cleaning chemicals ?
I have LOTS of experience trying to make these type of pumps last for cleaning roofs.
NOT trying to scare you Larry, but just tellling you of MY experiences with them.
MY guys often lied to me about rinsing the pumps out
Make NO mistake, these pumps will NOT take that kind of abuse.
Stainless Steel only has a "C" resistance to the roof cleaning chemicals we use, not good.
You take care of your roof cleaning equipment, so your results will hopefully be better ?

Back to the "price" yea as soon as a customer says "drop your price and you'll get the job" just say "I can't do that" and don't say another word, let him speak first. If he continues to beat you up just say "no". Not some run around the bush way of saying "no" just say "NO". (to that guy, he knows what he's doing he's in sales himself, probably car salesman there the worse) Rule of sales is state your case / business and shut up, the next one who speaks loses!! I don't care if you both stand there and look at one another for 5 awkward minutes. That guy is just fishing to see IF you'll drop, he doesn't know, or CARE he just wants to "try" to make you flinch so he's NOW in control and will start dictating price. Plus at those prices your going to be pushing 50% in material cost not to mention insurance gas etc. To heck with that. You'll be lucky to have enough left over to pay for lunch.

Just to add a little "trick" you can try as a last ditch effort to close this type of guy or shut him down is say "well if thats more than you can AFFORD ( make it sound like you think he can't afford anything of quality anyway- insult him) you  might try to get one of these guys running around trying to get into the buisness needing the experiance to price it a little lower but be carful,,,most of those guys don't do enough work yet to be able to carry liability insurance to cover YOUR house or themselfs if they were to fall off YOUR roof AND GET HURT. We call them hacks but as long as he doesn't blow holes in your roof that you wont know about until it rains really hard next spring you can get a deal sometimes. Then shut up and wait for the first response, if he's tries to "justify" or argue his "point" dont even engage, say well if theres anything I can do for you in the furture please call and have a nice day, make sure you give him another card right then and there with your cell on it and drive down to the conv store and have a drink....He'll call before you finish your drink if he's going to.

From prior and present (in a way) sales experiance, I believe that you must research your sales area. Research the competition, if any, as well as the clients and home locations. Don't always settle for the low price. Inflate your pricing if no competition is around, however, keeping it reasonable and fair to the actual pricing. One must remember that one is running a business and not a charity network. By lowering ones prices drastically, one takes no pride in the job.

I believe that a tough stance must take place as noted by Mudduck! Showing confidence and knowledge of the task at hand basically seals the deal. good presentation is a must!!! Also, AlWAYS UNDER PROMISE AND OVER DELIVER!

Good roof cleaning advice!
Roof Cleaning customers are not stupid.
It is like the difference between a 500 dollar paint job, and a full price one.
Cheap Paint, poor paint prep, and shoddy workmanship is all ya get.
Preach QUALITY and COMPETENCE, seperate yourself from the roof cleaning Hacks!
