I haven't come across this yet.  What happens to the gutters?  Does it turn them black?  If the roof goop goes to the inside, won't it just wash down the spouts?

I'm sure it will do something to them if nothing else leave clean streaks. always do test samples when in doubt. always always. just take some SH and put on a hidden area as see what happens?w

I know if he has copper gutters he will be concerned.

I some times have a hard time answering questions here because I wash houses too and some of you guys are strictly roof cleaners so it's different.

If you dont have house washing experience and all the necessary equipment you are lacking different options.

but thats a good question and it's good that your concerned. I'm looking forward to hear what others have to say

I took your advice and did some testing on a 3/4" copper pipe. Results -I sprayed a 30% mixture of SH and water at two locations on the pipe, one was sprayed with Pam cooking spray the other area was bare. Bare area was fine, except at the bottom of the pipe where the SH ran and dripped from( pipe was laying horizontal on saw horses), this drip area was pitted and changed to the patina look(blue-green) once it dried. Cooking spray area was protected and no damage occured. I think as long as you rinse the copper after your cleaning it would be OK. As for the job I will be doing, I will most likely try the cooking spray on the chimney flashing and dormer valleys since they are not large area's.

Hey man, he was just trying to point something out to you,...whether his information was helpful to you or not,.....he said it with the idea of helping you in mind,...I read his response a couple of times and didn't see anywhere that he was trying to be smarter than you.  

You may as well just move on to a board that suits your needs, if you can't handle a simple response.

Seems like trying to protect the gutters will be a major pita.

Maybe get a price from a gutter company to come and remove them for the roof cleaning then have them re-installed when the roof is cleaned and rinsed so no residue will affect them.

Add this in the pricing.

Covers might have holes, plastic can tear, oil and other things can run off or if spots are missed, etc.... more of a pain than just having the gutters removed so they are not damaged.

Just rinse a lot before cleaning then during then after to protect the plants and grass.

OR

Pass up the job and let someone else deal with that pita job.

Find some old copper pipe or sheeting to test. Also if the copper is already discolored at all and Love will clean it, then offer it as an added service.
