Hey guys i got a question in regards to the Plastic Poly tanks we all use. I know some of you lifers have been doing this longer than I have and more probably on more of daily basis then I have. I am a big paint contractor primarily. So I don't do just roofs all day every day.

I am now about to purchase a new replacement trailer. They last me about 6 to 7 years. This will be my  4th one in 18 - 20 years.  But I have reused my poly tanks ( or whatever they are made of) every time.  The question is. How long do these last? What is the life expectancy? Or should I replace them now?  I obviously have replaced the bulkheads a few times. But does the plastic get brittle and break down eventually?

TIA,  Glenn

I have 2 100 gallon tanks and a 50 and a 35.
One is only about 5 years old, but the others I've had since the early 90's. The trailer is a different story. I have an enclosed trailer with 4 vents and it rusted the frame out in 2 years! Chlorine and wetness are tough on steel!

Hey look a squirrel...

Congratulations confuse The question is how long do poly tanks last, not how many and what size tanks do you have.

My tanks are going on eight years now with no sign of slowing down.

Ok I got my new trailer in. And my poly tanks are probably 19 years old. Going to clean them and look for distress and change all the bulkheads and reuse them if they check out ok.
So I am going to convert to an air system you guys have been bragging about. If anyone can direct me to a trailer layout confguration thread it would be great. Im sure i can figure it out. Its just going to be a lot different than what I have had in the past. A lot less fittings than before by using drop sticks for pickups. And transfers too i guess. Tell me if I am wrong. Do you guys use the big tank for your mixed solution and the smaller one for the rinse? That way I can eliminate dragging another water hose on the roof just to rinse. 200 gals of mixed solution would do all but the mega mansions we do. And probably 4 normal size roofs. For commercial jobs I can go back to mixing in the smaller tank right? And the air pump wll transfer pretty fast. I am looking to build an environmentally safe leak free unit this time. I have had it with all the leaks that come with to many crappy fittings.

I got a 5x12 trailer. Im going to outfit it with my 200 gallon chemical tank and a 100 gal washdown tank. 2 hose reels, a compressor and if I have room i like to carry a pressure washer on it. Outfitted this way If need be this beast can employ 4 men.

I have had my tanks for about 7 years and I don't see any problems.

Glad you got a laugh out of that Mike. I'm sure snow in the eyes was the issue. I just don't deal well with stupidity and I'm not afraid to address it in my own special way ;)

I got a good chuckle out of it too.

Are you talking about hauling around 200 gallons of bleach in your chem tank? I thought you had to have a CDL to carry 120 gallons or more, and stay at or below 119 gallons for non-CDL? I'm not stating that as a fact, but I've read that and haven't seen the actual code to back it up at this point. Can someone else chime in and maybe give us the code if they know it?
