Running A 12 volt pump on a generator questions
Permalink

Hi Chris,

I am just setting up a new vehicle for roof washing and softwashing and I am sure I saw somewhere that it was possible to run a pump from a generator rather than the 12v battery.

We have been doing some larger jobs where the battery just did not last,

The new vehicle will have a 6000w generator to run the gutter vac system and would like to hook the roof pump up to this if I can.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Please post this to the forum if you think it will help others,

Bill

If there is not an option to run the 12V pump is there a pump that will run directly from the generator?

In my simple mind I would say if that's what you want to do,..just buy an AC powered pump and plug it in.

Tried that but must have bought the wrong pump as it cycles at any hose length over 80 ft.
Anyone know that pump I need to purchase?
Has anyone done this before as I am sure I saw something from Chris where he was talking about NorthernPump or something similar but cant find the post in the search.

You can buy a 12 volt DC power supply, and power it from an AC Generator, or just buy a pump designed to run on AC.

A pump will usually only cycle when the nozzle is too small, or if the hose is too small in diameter

Tried the 200 ft hose that came with the fatboy from Bob and also 5/8 garden hose.
Where could I buy a pump or which pump should I buy to get the same performance as the fatboy?
Anyone know a make and model number.

Thanks in advance... Bill...

If you already have the Fat Boy pump/kit from Bob,..I would figure out a way to use it. I think they might make an AC to DC converter. If you had one of those hooked to the generator and then to your 12v pump.

But, why not just run it as some have done,..use a marine battery and have it tied into your trucks charging system? I know guys use to talk about that on here before.

If I were you and just getting into roof cleaning, I would reduce the issues by purchasing an air system.

I think an air pump setup is the way to go for roof cleaning, but if you are gonna stay with a 12 volt pump setup, look at the Northern Tool Northstar Brand 12 volt pumps.

You can use one of these hooked to a generator to run your 12 volt pump http://www.amazon.com/MegaWatt-S-400-12x-Watts-Adjustable-Supply/dp/B00LIBRKQM
