There are millions of web sites that search engines need to crawl everyday. FB is ranked as one of the highest and mostly searched by search engines. With that said, FB will crawl and rank your site much quicker than if you have it sitting alone and out in the middle of nowhere. Like Eric said, its all about SEO.

The friend request thing and accepting them is helpful as long as folks are clicking on your site once you are friends with them. The more hits to your site the better.

I see my FB page show up in search sometimes. It's about key words, I think, and you have to have a lot of likes, I think, and watch the graph at the top and try to keep that high. See what works and doesn't work. I'm still trying to figure that out. Get people to engage in your posts? That would help too.

I post random stuff on our business page... it usually ends up being viewed by 50-70 people a day.... I have noticed new likes from new customers, or customers who recently received estimates also.. so its definitely doing something.
