Chris, RCIA is yours, if you see fit to help an individual, that's your business! I'm always missing something and I missed this thing about him having a sick kid-I just saw the request for free info. I'm a sick "OLD" kid myself, so I can sympathize. What we think on this doesn't matter. If I wanted to clean a roof for a family in need [and I have] I'd just do it! I own my business, just like you own RCIA. Gary did make valid points of course, but the final decision is all yours! Nothing wrong with being a good guy and you are!
The pic of that sick kid really got to me Chuck. I messaged the father, but have not heard back from him.
It's better to cry easy, than be a make believe "Real man" and say "Men don't cry"
My dad was a real man and I had super respect for him, but those are the words he said to me, when I cried at around 15 years old, he said "Grow up, men don't cry, babies do"
I didn't cry after that for 33 years. Right up to the day I got a call that my dad just died of a heart attack at 61 years old. Then I cried a few times and that was it, up until the doctor told my 45 year old wife, in 1996, that she probably had 6 months to live, with pancreatic cancer. She actually lived almost 9 more months, but it was 90% pure hell for both of us and the 14 and 15 year old kids that still lived at home, out of the 5 we had. I cried that day and most days for the next 9 months and even after that, I too, up to this day, will break into tears and outright crying over anything that really touches me.
Not everyone would be affected the same, especially a guy like me, who was always a roughneck/fighter for many years. Those days are gone now, I was still pretty tough up until about maybe 3 years ago. Now I have so many health problems, I can hardly walk, let alone fight!
Fortunately, I have no desire to be like that anymore, so I don't have a problem with it. I have a giant problem though, with my health robbing me of living a worthwhile life!
Sorry to hear about that Chuck, but you have done a great Job, your Boy works with you! She would be happy to know that, I bet ?
I too had to raise my Boy, his Mom was on Kidney Diallyssis, had to et her opil changed 3 times a week, for hours at a time! She nearly died before she got a kidney transplant.
It is raining so hard here, I can hardly hear the keys when I type~!
Thanks Chris. Yes, she most certainly would be happy with my son working with me for all these years! She would also be very happy with the wife he married and the man my "at home" daughter married after she died.
No rain here? Had a nice break today! A SHINGLED ROOF!!!!
Just one Big 2 story Tile Roof here Chuck, it was flat tile w/gutters, easy job!
I like flat tile almost as much as shingles! And gutters better than anything! My single story shingled roof yesterday had gutters every inch. Only problem was every gutter joint leaked a stream onto plants, so I hooked up 2 gutter canes and kept plain water running through.

Yes, you have to watch for leaky gutters. We have full time ground people, who's job is to water plants, and check on them even IF guttters are present. We do not use Gutter Canes, because they effect the water pressure we need to water plants.

Yes, I had a half of a plant die, from a leaking gutter spot, that I didn't use a gutter cane on and it didn't get enough in it to leak, until we had a short rain drizzle. The customer called and told me. I said "I will be right up" and when I looked up, there was an 1/8th inch hole drilled in the bottom of the gutter!
I showed him and he said "Yes, I did that because that plant doesn't get enough water" LOL
I said, I wish I had known about that. He said, it doesn't matter, the plant will grow back, I just wanted you to see it. HMMMM, a 20 minute drive each way, just to see that he had drilled a hole in his gutter!
The way I use gutter canes, is in a specific order. 1st I work as the ground man in many of our roof jobs, depending on what I see when I bid it. Then Irinse the bottom 3rd of the roof from the ground with a garden hose and a jet nozzle for cleaning pool filters. Then I put the gutter canes in 2 sections of downspot. When all have been flushed out of SH mix, -maybe 15 minutes each, then I put the hose up the bottom of the spouts and leave them lightly run up to the last minute before we leave. Then, if I feel the need, I rinse the plants once more by hand.

LOL, you can never overwater, but underwater the plants, and you have problems!
Yup! Often, more time, walking and effort go into plant protection, than into roof cleaning! If a job I bid leaves me with no fear for plants - good gutters and few plants and no fear of downspout drainage - . My son just runs good sprinklers constantly from start to finish and may tarp as needed.
