Lol well so far I like Gary's answer the best, those of you that recommended a ladder, have you ever done a building like this?
Dan 40 ft ladder is a monster and is heavy. If the the Lift can be figured into the price do it with a lift. If it means not getting the job then Use a 40 ft ladder.. Yes i have done a large condo job with a 40ft ladder
Dan who did you call to get that price it sounds really high? Try sunbelt rentals. Heres another idea. Get a 12 or 15 ft a frame ladder put that 6 to 10 ft extension wand on like larry suggested and get er done.
I am gonna price it for a lift, I don't want to be lugging a 40 between each dormer all the way around the building. Also on the back left corner of the building it would be impossible for me to even put up a ladder. I am gonna bid it for a lift, I am an adrenaline junkie so I want to use the lift anyway. I am gonna give them a grocery list for the campus, with each building and the pricing.
Mike the roof sits back from the building, even with a 12-15ft ladder I wouldn't get above the dormers.
Dan what type of lift are you looking at? Straight Mast or articulating boom? I would keep searching around. I went to sun belt and its 300 per day plus ins and delivery.
When I was in facilities management at Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ we did the gutter cleaning with 40' ladders. With two able bodied men it's not bad. Take your time and make sure you have good footing before you hoist it up. I'm in my 50's now and I can still do it with my ground guys. For how much longer who knows?

Some of you guys act like little girls. Hoses too heavy, ladder too heavy, etc. . I'll be 67 Sunday, had both knees replaced, have corparal tunnel in both wrists, some arthritis in shoulders, and I put up a 32' by myself all the time, and I also use 200' of 3/4 " hose. Of course in my younger days I would go out and drink 12-15 beers a nite, get home about 1:30 or 2:00, get up at 6:30, and go climb telephone poles all day, 6 days a week. Thats how us "ole timers" Get er done!!

I don't want to be any of that. Our slogan is work smart not hard.
Mike I am gonna look into the other company. United was recommened by Ray, It is an articulating boom.
Yes, the tow behind models you can hook to your bumper and move around yourself, and pick up from the company. Here are a couple of different kinds of lifts...
The first photo is of a tow behind - $300 per day

Does the tow behind have a 4wd? or do I have to back it in everywhere? What is the second and third picture? that appears to be what I am talking about.
The first pic is a tow behind and is just that....A tow behind. No motor. Not drivable. You have to manuver the lift to where you want it with your truck. They also have spider legs which come down and have to be level or the lift will not operate. Its a safety feature. IMO, they are a huge PITA and time consuming compared the a drivable lift.
We did however use one once that was drivabe but it was the bigest PITA ever. Took us 2 days to do the same job that we now do twice a year in 4-5hrs.
As you can see by the last 2 pictures, we fnally smartened up and did it right....And faster.

I did some shopping around on the lifts, Sun belt isn't in my area, but NES was offering a 60ft articulating boom for almost half of united rentals price!

Not only to school, but also back home with no coat either. But that kind of determination is what built this country, and then the politicans came in and destroyed what used to be a great country with their give aways to everybody.
