Well, guess what ? The forum does not have a Sitemap! I think all the changes we did to the forum, adding open and closed sections, moving forums around etc etc messed us up with Google! This Forum USED to return juicy backinks, once.
I know, I HAD a lot from here! A Sitemap tells Google what to crawl, and I am working on generation a sitemap for the Forum, so we can tell Google to crawl and Index what it is not currently doing.
On my roof cleaning blog, only 200 threads out of 1250 were indexed! Once I added a sitemap to my blog, presto! Google then indexed 980 out of 1250 posts!
Generating a sitemap for a forum is a bitch, there are so many posts and threads. We are working on it guys!

http://www.xml-sitemaps.com have you tried this?
Yes I did, but the forum has too many threads for it! I let it run for a long time, no luck
Chris, when I was a Google affiliate (google adsense adds), I had to make sure to add the password. If you don't, the Google Spiders can not crawl the password protected areas of websites or forums.

LOL, well ..... do we WANT the spiders crawling our closed sections Brother ?
Tell you a true story. Once, on another forum, I got into it with someone about a roof cleaning equipment matter. The guy, despite scientific proof to support my position, continued to cling to some of his outdated and just plain wrong advice to others about roof cleaning. It really got pretty nasty at times. Well, I got several jobs from that online argument! Seriously! That chit found it's way into the search engines, foul language, personal threats, and all. It was a nasty thread, but still it sent work my way. Kind of weird, huh ?
In fact, one customer was an attorney, and said he liked the way I presented my evidence, and "kicked the guys ass verbally".
People fight and argue in real life, and a forum with too many promotional posts, all glorifying the poster can look fake as hell sometimes.

100% yes! Google will crawl those sections but the content will not be indexed. There are literally thousands of members backlinks being blocked because Google is not able to crawl the private section. Even if it WAS indexed, it would be password protected and only accesable by RCIA Premium Members.

Lol thats what I would be worried about, sometimes the mental filter gets lost when on the premium side. For example when I said "we all aren't adult film producers like Ed." Although a joke, and a customer may not know who Ed is.. its probably not the best thing.
Chris, quick question on your original post. Are you now going to update/modify and keep this forum or are you still going to start a new one? And yes you are 100% correct on creating a Google site map for a forum. That would be a part time job in itself!

Unknown, at this point in time. I need to talk with Gary and The Uglies, run it by a few others, and then by the members. This forum is quite expensive to pay for. Before Gary worked some magic, we had Forum bills near 200 dollars a Month! The Forum is NOT exportable, deliberately designed that way, to keep you here. But I honetly feel we need not be held hostage. Yes, we will lose our high Google Ranking, but a bunch of roof cleaners generating fresh roof cleaning related content, like we are known to do, will have us back to number one in no time.
One thing is for SURE ! If this Forum keeps being "stingy" with giving backlinks, what freaking GOOD is it ? Sure, because of it's high ranking, promotional posts show up, and IF we do move, it is not like it will Die! We can still use it's SEO Clout for Promo Posts, but transfer most of our day to day activity to the new Forum. I envision having 2 Forums, on the first page of Google! Members will be the ONLY ones who will be able to have signature links, or Promo Posts, on BOTH Forums.
Absolutely! With fresh, original, daily content a new forum would find it's way to the top in no time at all.
There are some totally awesome new forums that have Facebook integration, built IN Blogging capabilities, and they will also keep track of members! One click video sharing, better and faster pictures loading, mobile compatability, they make this forum look antique!
Better searching, ability to trak online friends, better forum looks, are just a few features, besides SEO Integration. It really is a No Brainer for all of us to get the fuk out of here. We have outgrown this forum, and Gary I are financially strapped paying for this GD Place to boot.
The new forums will keep trak of memberships, automatically! Just THAT, and the lower cost alone is worth taking a hike for. But even picture loading here sucks, vs the better forums who allow you to upload multiple pics easily!
Some new forums allow you to one click multi quote as well.
Guys, this Forum is very dated. If we all stick toether, together we can rule the Internet, with 2 forums!
So when are we moving. No better time then now since we will all be on the computer in the winter months.
EXACTLY what I am thinking Brother! This is called IP Board Forum Software and has beautiful picture capability, as well as it allows Facebook Integration (and a link from the forum to your Facebook Company Page) as well as it keeps track of memberships.
This is one of the Forum Softwares I am considering very strongly because it looks cool as hell, and does what we want.
