First and formost, I would like to thank everyone who has included me in their prayers. Believe me, it has made a huge difference and is very much appriciated.
On the morning of the 31st we were doing a concrete cleaning and pool deck and enclosure cleaning. I was in the back cleaning the pool deck area while one of my guys was out front doing the driveway and sidewalks. While I was rinsing the pool decking after cleaning it, I squeezed between a jacuzzi and the the pool cage to rinse out the dirt and debris. There wasn't a whole lot of room so I decided to swing my body around to rinse it all out rather than just going to the other side of the jaccuzi. I figured I would save time. (Dumb move) It was then that the pressure washing wand hit the back of my left calf which cut my skin like a hot knife going through butter and forcing 4000psi of water into my leg. I was afraid that I may have severed an artery so I wrapped it in towels and had the homeowner call 911. The hospital kept me over night to keep an eye out for infection and to administer IV antibiotics. The cut is about 2 inches wide and went in about 1.5 inches deep. It cut through all of the fatty tissue and into the muscles in my calf which is making it a bit difficult to walk and one of the bigest issues is the risk of infection. Guys have actually lost limbs due to the infections that a wound like this can cause. The nozzle was a 25deg tip which at 4000psi can easily cut through a watermellon so you can imagine how easy it was to cut through flesh.
I have been doing this over 12yrs and have knicked myself a few times but have NEVER done anything like this before. It just goes to show you, accidents CAN and WILL happen. Lesson learned here for me and for others out there. Safety first. Me trying to save maybe 30 seconds has now cost me big time. Can't wait to see this bill. LOL...
I'm including a picture so that you can see what happened to my leg. If anyone thinks its too gross I will remove the picture.
