This a growing trend. My mother-in-law down in West Palm Beach, Florida saw a similar news clip and phoned me about it ... and here in Tallahassee, we have had quite a few calls last year for insurance policies being canceled or not being renewed because of algae stains / streaks on roofs. The year before that, nothing. This is fast becoming the industry standard for insurance companies. Hang on guys, this could turn out to be one heck of a ride!
Insurance companies are doing the same for commercial roofs as well. Apartment complexes, townhomes, condos etc... We are waiting on a start date approval right now for a bunch of villas. Their policy needs to be renewed soon and their insurance carrier is putting them through the same thing. Replace it or Clean it!
I was wondering when I would get my 1st call from a homeowner that is in this position. I just got a call last week from a homeowner that was frantic and needed it done asap, because insurance company was giving them 30 days. Well there was snow still on the roof and it was in the 20s all week Told customer to have Insurance agent to contact me..
The ins. companies will accept a expected date due to weather conditions as in Brians case he could write on the estimate .... estimated time of cleaning week of 3/17/13 and they will accept that. I got a call last night for an ins job. poor guy they are even making him take down a tree and redo his cement walkway....where will it end?

I'm friends with a few agents who write policies and they say they are starting to feel like property managers.
