For anyone who uses Purple Power as part of their house washing arsenal. Keep in mind that Advance Auto Parts will ship FREE on any order over $75.00, even heavy 5 gallon buckets. This is really nice, better than going to the store and picking it up. I order 10  at a time with free shipping to my door. I do feel bad for the UPS guy though(But not that bad).

They also seem to have good percentages off also, which is something you don't get as much at the store.

another thing regarding the use of Purple Power, I always have a full 5 gallon bucket with me on every job. The lids on these buckets are now removable,.I don't like the glug glug splashing, so I take a lid and add a tire valve without the valve stem in it, which is used as a breather. A simple hole in the lid allows the liquid to splash and "bounce" up through,..where as the tire valve gives a little height, making slop over non existent. So, anyhow,...when it's time to replace the bucket with a new full one,..I just swap lids,..putting my "custom" lid on the new bucket.

As for partial buckets, I just keep adding them together until they make a new full bucket.

We always have a couple gallons on the rig at all times. Lucky for us, our sh supplier carries it on the shelf for under $6.00 a gallon. Makes our life a bit easier.

Whats the ratio your using for PP/Water. I tried PP once and didn't like the result, so I bought more gutter grenade. This is good info, and I would hate to be that UPS guy.

Hey Dan, yea I've heard some don't get good results with Purple Power,..but it works very well for me. In the Summer we can mix at 50/50,..sometimes even 1/3's,..if it's plenty warm. We apply with a pump sprayer( modified with a tire valve for quick pump ups)
This time of year we will be going at the gutters pretty much with it straight outta' the bucket. Gotta just watch and be sure the paint on the gutters will handle it,..but I think that goes with any gutter cleaner.

But temperature, application and dwell key.

Jeff

Jeff, you add butyl as part of your house wash concoction for every job? Or is this strictly for gutters?

Hey Ed, the Purple Power is applied separately. In the heat we will wet the gutters first and apply the PP, in the cool we will spray the gutters dry before the downstreamed house wash mix. Alot of times we can use the dampness of the morning as a pre-wetting of the gutters. Mostly I can tell how the gutters are gonna be by looking at them and what the weather is giving me.

I've heard guys say they can add their gutter product to the bucket of house wash mix and it works,..never worked for me.

Never worked for me either. I did notice a big improvement on gutters by adding sodium hydroxide. One of my crewman loves spiking the house wash with shx. Except on windy days of course, lol.

I was at Harbor Frieght last week.

They had 2 different types of their own brand of degreasers for sale, by the gallon, and cheap too!

One was just sodium hydroxide based I think, but the other one had Isobutyl in it and sodium hydroxide I think.

If anyone is near a harbor frieght, these should be checked out.

@Dan, yes we still scrub gutters after the application of the Purple Power. Is scrubbing necessary every time?..no,..but scrubbing is thorough,..spraying and just hosing can lead to re-spraying,..which I prefer not to do,..so we just spray and scrub and move on. And spraying then scrubbing is better than dipping and scrubbing. Sometimes we even need to break out the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers to make the gutters the best they can be. Dan, you're applying and scxrubbing with a brush,..it's easier to apply with a sprayer, let it dwell a few minutes then simply brush over it to tie it all together nice and white,..then rinse.

Concerning the metal roof,..if it's in good shape the cleaner shouldn't affect it,..if it's oxidized it could spot it up,..if it's severlely oxidized it could leave leave metal exposed.

@Mike, the temps are very hard to overcome in my experience. At some point it's like hitting a brick wall. Simply put it's not a perfect world,..gutters are always gonna be tough in cooler temps. But using the Sun to your advantage and even scrubbing them with your gutter cleaner of choice and a Magic Eraser will help gain satisfactory results.

@Everyone ,.when it gets to cold stop promising a perfect job on the gutters,..simply state the facts that the whole house can be cleaned just fine,..with the exception of the gutter stripes because of the temps,..and they can take it or leave it. Most people take it and don't care about the gutter stripes as we the contractors do.

Am I the only one that still scrubs gutters? It seems like you guys all just spray it on and rinse it off. I have a large 240 ft of gutters coming up, I mix up about 2 gallons of Gutter Grendae and water 1:10 ratio. I scrub it on let it sit for 2-3 minutes and then rinse it off. On this next job, some of the gutters hang over a metal roof. I plan on keeping the roof wet, but does anyone know if the gutter cleaner effects metal roofs?

For gutter scrubbing I use power house from sunbrite, it contains butyl and sodium hydroxide.

Great info Jeff, this being my first fall in business, I didn't know temps effected gutter cleaning, good tip.
The metal roof is in great shape only about 7 years old. Apparently I need to switch up my techniques. Cleaning 2 story gutters can be quite the pain. But I charge extra so I can get a massage afterwards!
