I did not know this service even existed until two days ago. There seem to be many ideas on how to apply product to roofs. " Non pressure" seems to be the most widely used
term on this site as well as most independant websites. I understand how to apply the chemicals with a low pressure pump or spray bottle. Everyone states " WE DO NOT USE
PRESSURE WASHERS" or something relativly close due to the fact of removing granules on the asphalt shingles. That being said, how are the chemicals and black streaks rinsed
off? It can't simply be " using mother nature to do the rinsing" because no one would be able to post before and after pictures so quickly. I want to start in this business and don't
want to do a discredit to it by using a power washer to remove the chemicals / black streaks from my customers roofs. I'm aware that this is a very " new guy" question, but it is
one that must be asked just the same. Thanks in advance for any positive feedback.
if using a powerwasher only use it to shoot the chem mixture up onto roof via pickup tube, dont use/rely the pressure to clean. If the best ratio your pu tube is 10% and you are using store bought "bleach" understand this... Store bought may be labeled 5% but due to age and degregation it most likey is 2-3%, that said the best concentration you will get is .2-.3% if truley fresh, .3-.4% active chlorine. By itself wont do squat. Take your time and read and research as much as possible. Too many jump in before they truely know enough to do it right and screw their customers, do severe damage, and give the industry a bad wrap. I seariously urge you not to do any jobs for at least 2-3 months of serious learning and inquiring here.
While I'm not saying to take as much time as I did, but I read and researched for almost a full year before I even posted a question. I knew by using the search bar I could find 95% of all my questions and even more important found information and solutions I never would have thought of just by reading archived threads.
Be patient and educate yourself.

Straight store bought bleach still may not due the trick, just don't go pressure washing roofs.
It definitly won't.
My first slate roof (easiest to clean) I shot with straight store bought Clorox at 5% undiluted thru a 12V at 98 degrees heat (120 on slate) didnt do squat.
This was a control test, then shot it with special "additives" and came 90% clean within 3 seconds, after 2 weeks and 2 strong downpours, came 99.9% clean!

Hi Ed, Well that's the idea. It seems to be a need that needs to be filled. That is why I'm doing my research. I've found several videos using power washers that seem to get really good results, however most seem to use some other way of rinsing. Im wondering what the magical rinse process is that allows before/after pictures in one day.
Magic Mike, youre going to flip when I tell you the secret. Guys are putting Apple Sauce on the roof. Some guys are using Apple Cider and claim to have good results. Some guys are using (ready for this) Apple Cider Sauce! It sounds crazy, but it's true.
That's pretty amazing. That explains why the price of apples have went through the roof! Must be why you have such a big truck then, to haul all your sauce? Thanks for the tip Eddie !
We will bring you to water, we just want to make sure you are going to stick around. That's why we suggest you become a premium member. Once that happens sections of the website open up and all the secrets are revealed. Welcome to the RCIA.
Thanks for all the great advice guys. I'll use my power washer for a few jobs until I can get the $100 key to the Holy Grail.
John,
It will be the best $100 you ever spent. Before I started Pocono Non Pressure Roof Cleaning, LLC I tried cleaning my own roof with store bought bleach and a pump sprayer. That was too labor intensive. I did some more research and found RCIA. After researching this site for over a 1 1/2 years(slow reader) I started doing roofs as a add on service. Now roof cleaning and soft washing is another full time business for me. As previously mentioned by another member the search button is a valuable tool for knowledge. These members are great to deal with and they are based all over the country. Their experiences will help you succeed.
Serving the Pocono and Lehigh Valley(Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe, Pike and Wayne Counties), PA community as well as both Warren and Sussex Counties of New Jersey
Thanks Hank. How does soft wash compare to Wash safe roof wash? It's biodegradable and dosent hurt vegatation. I've seen a pretty impressive video on it.
Being someone on the outside looking in doing my research ,a product that won't kill plants and does not require a resperator for application looks like a good alternative. I understand everyone on this website uses bleach. If i weren't doing research then " wash safe roof wash" wouldnt have been mentioned :)
No, I didn't see it coming. The guy was real convincing acting like a little douche. Must be a real good product that sells itself. You don't even have to run around disguising yourself to sell it.
