Roof with no gutters?

+1 on what Ed said "plenty of water".

We water before, during and after if there are no gutters. If you don't want to lose sleep over the morning dew that could bring down some residual SH off the roof, than I would rinse also. It might take a little more time but save money on Rolaids in the long run. Make sure to have your ground guy keep water on the vegetation below the drip line as you rinse.

How do you guys go about cleaning roofs with no gutters? This job has sensitve flowers below the gutter line. During the cleaning I can obviously tarp them, I am worried about the morning dew? Its also has moss which typically means I use more SH.  95% of homes I deal with have gutters, this is one of those times.

If you are worried then just rinse it.

Ive said this before: Kudos to the Fla folks who deal with no gutters all the time. First thing I do is let the customer know that the potential is there for plant damage. We cover what we can and use alot of water. Then rinse roughly the first 3'. I think the Plant Wash from AC has really helped also. We had alot of problems in this years beginning but we've gone way overboard to protect landscape. It takes more time but its better than the alternative result.

My first thought was too rinse, but I don't think the florida guys rinse everytime they do a home with no gutters? Ed my plan is to clip tarps onto the fascia, allowing the solution to run to the grass, after that I am gonna rinse and then hit everything with the plant wash. You were having problems with landscape with gutters also? or just with no gutters?

Throw a tarp over the sensitive plants. Don't leave them covered too long if its hot. Whenever we have overly sensitive plants etc...below we normally just shoot a quick rinse of water above that area before we leave. We also leave a flyer with the customer with watering instructions reminding them that they need to water after the first couple of storms.

Ray from Spray Wash just completed a job that had a rose bush under the drip line (that even had gutters) that he covered up.

I avoid homes with no gutters { unless there is no landscaping } usually here on the Island they have gutters. About six weeks ago I did go out to the hamptons a very rich section. The house was Huge, all wood and wall to wall landscaping AND NO GUTTERS! I had it est. at around $1600 but I told him if he ever gets gutters give me a call. I was not going to risk it...just getting it dripping on the home would be devastating. I would certainly lose money if I killed one shrub or stained the home. Sometimes you just gotta say no.....for now on when they call from out East I say " Got Gutters"?

Probably 50% of the roofs we do don't have gutters....C'est La Vie!

Saturate under the drip line before, water during, and rinse like hell afterwards. The finish up with a healthy dose of Plant Wash! If there are delicate blooms, we will sometime cover them, or tell the HO there is potential for bloom damage to CYA. It you cover of drape...dont leave it covered for the duration, only as long as needed!

I have turned a job down before that I didn't think I could handle but this isn't to bad. I have my ground guy go water crazy and then I tell them to pretend they are playing a game called protect the plants, any drips you see coming down the fascia you blast it with the hose, dispersing the mix across a broader area.

I do lots of roofs with no gutters. Upon arriving, I set up sprinklers to saturate at least 2 sides of the homes bushes-under the roof dripline and let them run. If I have a ground man with me, he waters the other half.

Then I get set up for cleaning.

Then I move the sprinklers to other 2 sides and go back and tarp touchy plants. Then, if I have a ground man, he follows me around the roof watering as needed. Then I rinse that part of the roof off completely [ it will all come down as salt sooner or later and if it's in a couple of very mild, short rains, it will do lots of damage! So, I clean it all off on the spot. Then of course, do the same on the other 2 sides of the house. Then just water, water, water + I tell the owners, if possible to water their plants [or just the soft leafed ones] for the next 3 days or until after a hard rain. If I am still concerned, I may stop back the next day and spray on Miracle Grow and flood some into the touchier plants roots. That works well for me here in Florida.

I would assume Chuck the extra care is calculated into the price?

Absolutly! Every job is priced, based on the amount of work required and that is explained at the time of bidding, to the homeowner.

When the next guy bids it and has little to say about plant care etc, they dismiss his bid and hire me.

Also, I often ask if they would care to pay an extra $25.00 for me to return the next day and apply a special mix [ Miracle Grow ] to the leaves and roots. It's something I may be doing for my own peace of mind anyway, but the $25 extra pays for gas and my 15 minutes work time.

The job attached had 1 small piece of gutter, so I went back-this time free, because I was bidding a job right in the area anyway.

Yes, when watering grass, you must water like hell, because if you don't, it is actually better to NOT water it . 1/2 azzed watering will only spread the death all over the grass, vs a narrow line of yellow grass if you do not water.
