Questioning my priorities.... Are they wrong? ;-)

Sure is quiet on here today....

Anywho, only did one roof on Thursday, but did three on Friday, one of which was very nice....  But what did I do today??  Tore both of my roof rigs down and winterized as a hard freeze is coming

So here's where the priority comes in to question - the roof rigs are winterized, but I haven't touched the boat!  Not that  big of a deal really as I just need to run it up and get some Stabil through the fuel system.  A couple of years ago,the boat would have been taken care of first.   There's always tomorrow...

I wonder what the freezing point for the average roof cleaning solution is.....  Surely the salt content would keep it well below 32f I would think?  I see a simple experiment in the works, at least for anyone that may not rinse their systems out.

Ted I am pretty lazy when it comes to my boat. The mechanic takes it around to his yard, blocks it up and winterizes it and Im done. Do you have inboards, outboards or stern drives? I have one roof left for Monday, with the early morning frost i won't hit it till 10 am. tuesday I will break it all down and wait till next season.

I must be doing suttin wrong. Theres no boat here to winterize. I just double checked, still no boat. I need to winterize my hammock by flipping it over and getting the leaves off, then roll it up into the shed. Its a really nice hammock but I didnt have time to use it this year. Who has time for a boat? Im jealous of you guys.

Patrick - it's an outboard (well two of 'em, one's a kicker).  No big deal really, 'cept ordinarily the boat would have been put to bed by now instead of some pumps and hoses.

Ed - isn't that part of owning our own business - having time for whatever we please, or not having time if that's preferred.  (Read cha-ching!!)  Seriously, I had a blast working my own hours over the summer.

Gary - have those ice trays in the freezer filled with roof mix yet?  LOL  Mrs. Gary will love that.    disbelief

Larry - confuse           biggrin

Generous to offer Teds boat. Pat when I did have a boat I would take it out of Woodbridge, around Staten Island, accross Raritan Bay to hit the resaurant/bars near Sandy Hook. After a few pitchers of Kilians I could never seem to find my car.

Hey Ted,..wondering about freezing temperatures can make for a sleepless night if you know your stuff is gonna possibly freeze. Not sure of your setup,..but a simple and fast way to winterize your pump and hose is to simply remove the suction hose and stick it in a gallon of the pink rv anti-freeze and run it through,..depending on how much the hose holds it may take a couple gallons. The end of the season is always a pain for s northerners. I put a tee on my suction line so I could simply shut the roof tank off and turn the other valve on to make winterizing simple.

The mix in the tank won't hurt anything by freezing, unless it's completely full,..but in a partially empty tank there will be room for expansion. And it would have to get REALLY cold to freeze a tank full of roof mix to a solid state anyhow.

Jeff

I run antifreeze thru the pump down. i don't worry about the tank tho but the ball valve might be a concern. is it safer to keep those closed or open i wonder?
