Just reading up on miscellaneous stuff and was reminded of the fact that SH when breaking down the chlorine off-gasses which brought up this question, if storing 12/15% in large volume should I/we vent the storage tanks?
Would a large volume tank filled to the top and tightly sealed be a potential "bomb" risk? I wouldn't fill a tank up cold if the temp is going to go up raising pressure that would be problematic when opening (increased pressure) spraying SH on you!
"Stagnation of flow or system isolation has been one of the most noted operational problems with Sodium Hypochlorite systems. Why? When the system is stagnant or "not allowing gas to be circulated through the system," gas becomes trapped in the isolated system. The Hypochlorite will continue to outgas and will buildup extreme high-pressure if not allowed to vent or recirculate. Diaphragm pump ruptures, short run piping system and ball valve explosions, pump malfunction (airlocking), and gas pressure relief valves are a few sensitive issues in which to take precautionary measures. Generally, if a system is left stagnant for long periods, the system should be drained, flushed, or allowed to be bypassed through a recirculation line. "
Good post.. I remember leaving for vacation and had a 3/4 full drum on my truck. When I came back, the top of the drum had expanded tremendously and I was scared to open it. Eventually I did and everything was fine, but I'm looking forward to seeing what is said in here, too.

We keep 200-300 gal. in 55 gal. drums at the shop and have never had an issue with the drums expanding. I did however have a batch delivered where a couple drums were expanded. We just cracked them open to relieve the pressure and all was fine. I'd imagine you having a problem with expansion if your drums are stored outside as Phil did with the one in his truck. The sun beating on those tanks has to accelerate the breakdown. If you are using ag tanks on your rig, they are already vented.
