Where was all this fun when our boy was gone, working hard on his OWN forum, selling certifications, teaching classes in Tampa, writing up a lengthy "Roof Cleaning is an Unregulated Business"? (whoops... I forgot, we just need more government regulation).
Competition is good, low balling competition who has a good paying full time job doing something else isn't. Do I care about my competition? For the most part, no! Why, because he could give a rats a** about me and would bury me if he could, as well as all others here... These kind of guys have little worry about a pay check, health insurance, etc., We have to work hard for every job we win whether it's owner operator or for a group of employees. As someone here used to always say...
"At the end of the day it's just business."
I am always out from my key board as so many others are... good shot Chris!
No harm intended Brett. I was just joking.... Saying that makes it okay, right? Seriously, I just get tired of coming here and seeing bad attitudes and the mob mentality.
I agree with you about competition being good. The more people out there spreading the word about our service the better. Thats just free advertising for us.
And I REALLY agree with you about the competition that has a full time job and therefore doesnt have the worries that we do. You would think that since these types of guys are out hustling working a second job (roof cleaning) that they would want to make the most money they can. and not cut theirselves short.
Maybe the best thing we could do would be to make friends with them and tell them.... Dont lowball. This is what you can make! Heck, tell them what you charge and tell them if they are going to lowball at least only do it by $50 so you can have a shot to sell your service.
I dont know. Maybe it would be best to not worry about them at all....

Good idea Chris... if those guys would just get a clue and understand that they can make more money and work as a team, so to speak, we would all be better off in the long run. I have dealt with this kind of crap for years in remodeling, the guy that undercuts me by thousands and shows up to do trim with a chainsaw! Then, I get a call to PLEASE come and fix the mess!
Joking is good! It's just hard to pick up here at times!
"bad attitudes and the mob mentality"... exactly why I am not here much!

Personally, I missed the comedy in Chris' "joke"
He always does the same thing, just takes little 1 sentence shots, but never truly gets involved with any conversation of importants - no REAL contribution, just short shots and then tries to be seen as the good guy.
It's not working so well for me anymore.
Maybe where he is at in Arkansas he just talks lowballers into being his buddy and raising their prices. Let him come to my small town areas, with 3 pages in each telephone book loaded with pressure washers and roof cleaners. Plus all the school teachers, landscape and lawn guys and firemen who do this part time, just to add a little extra income.
I don't get his "jokes"
I assume any time a majority has a feeling about something, it's a "MOB MENTALITY"
I think Chris has been listening to the AC group thinking a little too long, or lives in the wrong country, where what the majority wants is not considered a MOB MENTALITY.
After 22 years, I make less than I did 11 years ago, thanks to lowballers, "Go Green" and advertisers like Roof-A-Cide who spend their advertising $ on putting down the use of chlorine, more than they spend on talking about their own products supposed benefits.
I just got cancer cut out of my shoulder this afternoon and 11 stitches, from my years of hard work. I don't find any of this cutthroat crap one bit funny! NO JOKE!
Ya, I know, I argue and shake things up a lot, but at least I don't just take 1 sentence cheap shots and even at 63 years old, I am always ready to come out from behind my keyboard, weather to take a beating or give one, {on or off the keyboard}.

I am sure glad somebody else noticed this about Chris. I thought it was just me.

I get tired of people complaining about competition.
So what if someone is lowballing you. It happens to everyone in all types of businesses. The businesses that cant deal with it probably will go out of business. It doesnt do us any good sitting around complaining about it. Especially when its something thats out of our control.
I heard a good saying the other day that I think fits here "Be the hammer, not the nail!"
I beleive it is our responsibility to show homeowners the value of our service and price. If we cant do that then its our own fault. And beleive me I am affected by this. I am undercut on price on the majority of residential jobs I bid. Im much too honest to be a very good one-time in person salesman and it shows in my closing rate!
Also, over here we might not have the amount of competition that is in other places, But we dont have the population and the amount of work either. I am not kidding..... I would LOVE to live in a metropolitan area with 5 or 6 million people all within our work radius. Endless opportunities!
Kim, when I say mob mentality I did not mean standing up for what someone believes in. I meant it as piling on, ganging up, by the mob, group, click, etc... this thread is a decent example.

Or possibly organizing a group of people, starting an e-mail chain and instructing and enciting organized attacks from the comfort of your home? Would that qualify. I so thank the person who cc'd me on all of that mess. Is this what you might be talking about Chris?

Me?? Gloat? (BTW, it's g-l-o-a-t.) You and Al Gore invented stuff that we've heard about, or so we're told. That's gloting....er.....gloating LOL.
Sorry Ted, used the spell check and it didnt find that mis spelling. Oh well I am not a great speller. I got your voice mail. No need to talk. Ill be doing a meet and greet in your area some time soon I am sure. We can talk then.
Thanks,
AC
How bout come fishing with us, at the NOVA meeting this fall AC? Maybe it would be too cold? Think it would be cool to fish, drink, and talk shop!!!
NOLA is Ted's gig and I would need an invite. If I am invited I will do my best to be there.
AC, you and I haven't had a problem in a while and I am all for leaving it that way.
I don't even think I hate you anymore? That there's a joke!
I just don't think you really want to meet up with Ted face to face.
He's a good businessman and a good guy, but he can be a nasty boy!
He's also my friend!

Well lets see, from what I've heard Ted is about 6'4", weighs about 270-280 lbs, is an ex-marine, has a great sense of humor, and one hell of a temper. I've never met him, but developed a freindship over talkshoe.
I have met AC, and I don't think this would be much of a contest. (my moneys on Ted), so I would highly recommend canceling the face to face, and for sure the fishing trip, unless you like being an anchor.lol.
Hopefully this will never come about, but the world is getting crazier by the day.

Doesn't that tire you mores, plus keep these tiring topics active and on top?
Don't you know how to pass by a post?
I usually am one the hammers, and AC mob folks "Friends of the nails" guys like you, always show up. And that's normal. An opinion on a forum is posted and differing opinions are posted as replies. If you think there was a mob against AC, don't forget, he has his mob too.
If a group of people unite in a thought or effort, I guess that offends whatever political mindset you may have?
Ever think of moving to a dictator ruled country ? Group efforts are strongly discouraged in such places, mobs a killed and that type of rule may be more pleasing to you?

It took more than an email group to get rid of you, but only 1 guy, who is too nice for his own good to get you back here-Chris Tucker. The one you insulted and brought up things about in his personal life, that were unrelated to business. RCIA has what almost 2400 registered members and you think an email group got you busted outa here? Unrealistic. YOUR WORDS ABOUT WHY YOU EVENTUALLY HIT THE ROAD WERE WHAT""The needs of the many"Not the needs of a small email group.
AC, face it, MOST people here don't really like you. A few do. You are to roof cleaners, what a car salesman is to most people.

Wow! You are so far ahead of us all!
We never thought of that great advice!
Discussions about lowballers are always going to be here and people will post replies, like you have been. In fact, you even offered advice!
So, it appears this subject does not "tire" you as much as you say?

I agree Chuck those were and are my words. However many were told "Just get rid of AC and we will take over and we will get so much done and we will make a difference and if you side with us we will do this and that." and what has happened here at the RCIA since April 2011. Forget about me, its not about me. Many others are GONE and of that 2400 that are registered about 50 even post here anymore. What did the new leadership accomplish for the RCIA?
"An army of Lions lead by an Ass will usually be defeated by an army of Ass lead by a Lion."
Its all about leadership and I would like to see discussions moved from who dislikes who to what can we do for the industry.
This is a quote from the home page of the RCIA website.
"The Roof Cleaning Institute of America is an organization of Roof Cleaning Professionals that is setting the tone for this industry. We are a loud and proud bunch of hardworking men and women who measure quality with success. The RCIA is dedicated toward the safety, education and future of our industry and it's members. Education built upon a strong foundation is paramount to all future achievements. Because when you develop the right skills, resources and relationships you will exceed all expectations. The RCIA is here for you every step of your journey and we are going to make this happen together. The Roof Cleaning Institute of America is for members and by members of the Roof Cleaning Industry. No fuss. No hassle. No junk. Just everything you need to bring yourself to the table of success and beyond. Together we are the voice of this trade and the RCIA is developing strategies constantly to help it's members and their customers by creating a sound and solid ground to build upon."

AC... since I will admit to being one of those in the email mob, I never read one email that stated: "we will take over and we will get so much done and we will make a difference and if you side with us we will do this and that". Who were they talking too? Who was the king that could grant such a request? As far as the other part of your quote, there were more than a small email mob who were ready to see you go. Chris brought you back even after you said some really nasty things about him and you even have the audacity to make some snide remarks in your little piece about roof cleaners. Chuck is so right...
"AC, face it, MOST people here don't really like you. A few do. You are to roof cleaners, what a car salesman is to most people".
There were many who were willing to help out here but at the end of the day, this is Chris' forum. He has control and he decides what happens, as he did with you and roof-a-cide. The mob would have kept you both out!
What are we doing? Plenty... you, the almighty know nothing about. We like it that way!

Chuck all I am saying to your post is quit talking shit and call me if you dont understand what I wrote or why I posted in this thread in the first place.
AC that is not what I was talking about. I didnt know about the emails. lol. From where Im sitting I would compare what went down to a full blown coup.
The funny part about it is that I get lumped into the AC Cool Aid Drinkers group. Im not sure why..... At the time I was pretty dissapointed that there wasnt better communication from the top down. As a paid member that wasnt in the know I really didnt have a clue what the plans were or what was going on. AND when questions were asked they were replied to (by the leadership) with a condescending attitude. I posted all of this at the time.
Having said that... I wasnt saying let me show you how to do it because I wouldnt want any part of anything like that. BUT I was pretty ticked that the leadership quit so easily and left us in this situation now. <<< Of course, Im saying all of this from what Ive seen and know... Which obviously isnt everything.
But I dont hate you AC Or Bill or Ted or even Chuck ;) This is just a message board afterall.
And Chuck if you missed it... I posted in this thread because It gets old coming here and seeing bad attitudes.
There is an attitude on this board with certain people that is basically you are either with us or against us.
All Id like to see is some direction of where the RCIA is going and how people can join in and help. I have my own ideas on what I wanted to see and saw clearly that those things couldnt happen here. So I did them on my for profit site in my own way.
I may want to help here as well if someone would step forward and tell us what the direction is. Is there a board anymore? What are the RCIA goals for 2012?
