Walking on steel Roof?

I have a job that I looked at and they have a green steel roof over the porch area.  The only way to get to the roof above is to use a ladder off of the metal roof to reach the shingled roof above.  This roof is to steep to walk from the back to get to the top 9/12.  My questions is has anyone ever sucessfully used this aproach?  Are these metals roofs able to with stand the weight of the ladder and myself without leaving impressions from the feet of the ladder?  I am 205lbs.  If they are I thought of getting a piece of wood of some sort so that the weight can be distributed evenly.  I am also concerend with the metal roof getting slippy from watering it down. Bucket rental is out of the question, any thoughts would be great.

If you get any roof cleaning mix on the metal roof, it will make it slick as ice. What pitch is the metal roof? I think anything over a 3/12 pitch and I'd be pretty worried about the plywood slipping out from under you.

Be careful, Joe. It sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

If the metal roof has a standing seam on it you can attach vise grips or bar clamps to the standing seam, you'll need two total, spaced however far apart you feel comfortable with. Now you have a stop to rest your plywood or a 2x4 layed flat against to use as a kicker to hold the ladder in place. If the roof does not have a standing seam and is flat, we sometimes use window carrier suction cups to stick to the metal roof and lay our plywood against them. Over the years I have done a lot of siding installs over metal roofs and this is how we tackled some of them. I can tell you I cleaned the roof shown below which you can see the metal roof there and it became way to slick to stand on as soon as the mix hit it. Water is one thing, but as soon as that surfactant hits the roof it becomes an ice rink.

Spray it from the ladder with a stream tip, move the ladder as needed. Or do one side from the other and wait until clean and dry and repeat for the other side.

If there is a will, there is a way. I always find a way to get any job done right never had to give up on one yet, 14 years later.

I'd treat that roof from the ground.

If there's any growth on the standing seem roofs, I'd use a brush if/as needed on an extension pole from a step ladder.  Like the man said above, where there's a will there's a way.

Let us know how it works out?
