Got a call last week to quote a roof. It was a quick conversation, HO said a good friend recommended me and said they wanted it done as soon as possible. I went over and met with the husband who was in a hurry to leave. Gave him my quote, he was happy with it, asked when I could do it. Told them I could be there Wednesday afternoon. Said that would be great and we parted ways.
Yesterday, I get a voicemail from the HO saying they got a quote from another company and they were going to go with them. I call her back to ask who this other company is and some other details. As far as I know I am the the only business offering this in the immediate area. She didnt answer and I have yet to hear from her.
I had a job in that area today and drove by and I see Roof Shampoo using a surface cleaner on the roof. All I saw was a small PW, a ladder and a surface cleaner. I wanted to puke. I feel as though, I dropped the ball on this one. I didn't educate the potential customer well enough to make an educated decision.
Has anyone ever ran into this franchise? I looked at their website and all I read is how a potential client should never use a contractor using a bleach based solution... Every page on the website was bashing the bleach based solution killing plants, damaging things, and how wrong it is. Those bastards drove about 2 hours for a 2500 sq ft roof. I am pretty sure that was the only job cause I stalked them and watched them get back on the interstate and head home.

They are around my area as well. I have not seen them doing any roofs. They have a bunch of signs everywhere " ugly stain removal" Roof Shampoo. I make sure any potential customer knows the dangers of having someone use a pressure washer to clean their roof. Then you gotta hope that you made the best impression and stated the facts!
The Roof Shampoo guys in Annapolis are close to my prices, so that bleach talk will probably kill your chances with certain customers. We fight against using a pressure washer on the roof, they fight against using bleach. May the best salesman win!

Give me a call some time if you'd like Mike. I'll tell you how I consistantly beat them.

I didn't even know they existed in my area. I think they might have been quite a bit cheaper as I have been pricing everything between $.25-$.35. I thought it was in the bag. I gave the HO my binder of before and after pictures, told him to take a look at it while I looked at he house. He said no, since I was referred from a friend he has known for 30+ years, he knew it would be done right. I shot him a price, he said that sounds good.
I know they were also moving and wanted it to look better than it did. As far as I know they could have came in and just cleaned the dirty side for $100. Since they are moving they might not have cared as long as it looked good. At least that is what I am telling myself. haha Oh well, back at it, one cancelled and two more took called so I am ahead one!
It's funny we are talking about this. Just was at facility and I was telling them about all of my services that I provide. Sure enough there is algae on the roof and noticeable at that. I was informed that they just had the roof cleaned this spring and to the tune of $1200+. Gutters were not cleaned inside or outside, everytime it rains gutters overflow, striping etc. What gives with this company, it just baffles me.
I have a roof shampoo in my area. He has yard signs everywhere. I think he helps me. I get lot's of call's because I use a soft wash system. Most of the people that call me have checked out roof cleaning on line. Have been to this site, and do not want a pressure washer on their roof. I have yet to loose a job to the "head & shoulders" guy. Most of the people I deal with do not seem to mind about the "bleach" after I explain why we use it, how we will protect the plants, and why it works so well. I have pictures of a few roofs we did that had extensive landscaping that shows before and after pics, and the homeowners phone numbers, in case they would like to call them to see if their plants were o.k. Never has anyone called a customer to ask, after they see the pics they are fine with the way we do it. Of course, with the amount of water we use, I am waiting for a homeowner to complain to me about their water bill one of these days.
Somewhere, oh somewhere, Larry Millette has a picture of one of his competitors, no joke, with the pressure washer on the roof. The whole pressure washer, not just the hose and/or wand! It's almost unbelievable to see, but it happens.
Turn Key franchises like the roof sham"poo" are not built to last. These companies are like vultures, seeking to find an unemployed person to buy in, hoping to makes lots of money. Not much overhead, no education, and apparently no business IQ based on the prices I'm hearing.
