I had to call him because of a burnt relay on a brand new pump. He wanted pics of the setup. He said it my ground was too long. I have mine grounded to a seperate marine battery and both boxes (pum box & battery box) are side by side. My ground couldnt have possibly been any shorter. He honored the warranty but maybe he just assumes if he didnt wire it, its probably doomed to fail. Bob knows his chit though.

I bought the Fatboy pump in a box - despite all the posts about problems people were having with the relays, fuses etc..... on both this site, as well as his own forum.

First time using it the fuse blew, and the relay fried shut, meaning I could not turn the pump off....

when talking to Bob about it, he claimed no one else ever had these types of problems, and it must be the way I have it hooked up etc etc....

I sent it back for a refund.

BTW, I bought a 5.5GPM 60psi pump from Northern Tools for $119, and have not had a single problem with it

I have bought from Bob with no problems. He takes your order and ships it.
Any pump you buy from anyone could fry at any time.
All he can do is warranty it and he does.

Ive got 4 pumps from Bob. All have worked as advertised.

I do prefer the air flojets over the 12volt flojet myself.

William, to answer your question: I like the FloJet because it self-primes when mounted higher than the tank, and it's a marine-grade pump, so that has advantages in my setup as well.  Self-priming also means that it can run dry without harm.

Off-topic:  That's my 55 Ford F-100!  Well, it is the same color as the one I had.  It is beautiful.  I sold it in 1986 when I purchased my first home.  Straight 6 that I rebuilt as my first engine rebuild project.  Oil bath air filter, glass bowl carburetor.  Wooden floor in the bed.

Is it 1955?

PM me to re. the Ford, to stay on topic.

Oh, and William, please consider joining as a premium member. I was encouraged to do so, and I'm glad I did.

Congrats on the new baby, also on your work in the outreach program for teens.  Good stuff!

Having an electrical engineering back ground, Bob is right to an extent...  The shorter the ground and "+" lead between the motor & battery, the better as you have less voltage drop.  A 12 guage wire will handle up to 25 amps at 12 volts.  The longer it is the more voltage drop you will have so the more amperage it will take to run the motor.  That results in blown relays and fuses.  I prefer circuit breakers as they are resettable in a minute.  The trick is to use a heavier guage which will result in less voltage drop.  Especially if the wire is comprised of many small diameter wires.  I use a lot of electronics on my rig.  Electrical reels, pumps, injector pumps, battery charger, electrical wench, electric starters on 2 pressure washers and therefore use 4 gauge wire.  Costs more but has no problems with voltage drops.

I have bought from Bob a few times, and never a problem. I have also bought from PWP and Delux w/o any problems either.

Of course you've probably never had a problem from a vendor, you and this site are a golden goose to vendors, I'd be surprise if they didn't grovel at your feet and throw down rose pettles in front of where you walk.  You've must have brought them 10 fold if not 100x the business they would get otherwise biggrin

Ah the value of networking.
