thanks for calling me an idiot Mike, especially when i've never once been disrespectful on this website and have always kept it professional.
i just said if $720 landed on my lap in 2 hours i'd take it, especially if it wasn't advertised, that's my only point and i stick by it 100%.
keep in mind that i'm not looking at his track record, i'm just basing my opinion on this one isolated occurrence.
when i mentioned that i did 10 1000 sq ft roofs for a camp at $250 a pop nobody seemed to have a problem with it, Dan's reputation is hurting him on this one ... believe me, i realize he's turning south jersey into florida, it's why i don't cross the bridge, but i'm just basing my opinion on this one particular instance.
If I did that many Roofs I would at least have a few before and after pictures. Do we have any pictures of this job / jobs?
I for one would like to see just exactly how small these little rancher homes are. I'm sure it would add some credability to this thread and possibly justify the pricing. Dan? Pics?
mike i wasnt calling you an idiot. Just a little frustrated becuase everything that is taught on here and other forums is to clean the whole roof. I just think doing half a roof is an injustice for the consumer and they are not really getting a clean roof. becuase the stuff is really growing on the south side of the roofs. So the stains will come back and come back faster.
We in new jersey only have about 8 months to work and we should not be getting florida rates.
I had a guy call with a 1,000 sf house call for a quote. Gave him my price per square ft but told him his house fell into the $200 minimum" catagory. He got pissed and said he could plug in his electric power washer and pay a homeless guy $8 bucks an hour. (plus a few other choice words that I won't repeat)
As much as I wanted to lay him out, I was polite and said, "Thank you for calling and make sure that homeless guy is insured because if he falls off your roof and get's a good lawyer, you might be the one that is homeless."
You guys are silly i did not take the call, i was 1 block from there houses i would never have taken my ladder out for just one roof for $180 he had 4 side by side. im not a low baller my prices for a normal estimate are were they should be. Whats wit you mike you don't want to be my friend no more?

fair enough ... i feel your frustration Mike, if i worked South Jersey, i'd probably have a different take on it.
You should be getting top dollar in your territory, I'm shocked that I get much better prices in PA than I would NJ, before I started this season I registered with NJ thinking it would be the opposite and it took me a week to figure out I was wasting my time there.
if I had no appointments and $720 in 2 hours landed in my lap, I'd do it too, like he said, he didn't advertise it ... and if he can get several 1000 sq ft homes, right next to each other at $275 a pop, i can't really blame him ... you'd be happy with $2200 on a 8k sq ft home right?
that being said, if that pristine roof cleaning truck ever lands on the other side of the walt whitman, i'd be like joey merlino shooting it out on 76
now thats funny!!! Iwas just eyeing up west chester last night. lota nice homes out there $550?

I would never come down that much from my original estimate. I have walked before and will walk again. Now I don't mean to sound to cruel here but that big " PAY DAY " will come full circle and bite you in the azz. Word gets around when you " Low Ball " as fast as when you do great work. Maybe if you had a better " rap " about what you do they would have chosen you at a higher price like $275. That handy man and the homeowners will brag what they got it done for.....and everyone will expect it. I am sorry for coming across so strong but I think moves like that hurt us all.
he had the checks from the nieghbors his and 3 others there old they dont wanna here it some times ya got to make a move this ant the 90"s

Depending on how hard up for work I was, I would drop my prices some to get the jobs. I know I wouldnt have matched them (not because it wasnt enough money, but that it showed them that they can go get any yahoo to give them a price, and they'll find somebody with a good rep and make em match it so they dont lose business. I would have made him think I was giving him a one time special chance to get it done for $250ea if they signed up by the end of the day because you dont want see them get screwed by the other company. Then just pushed the issue that they are going to damage their roof with the other company's methods, give them a business card, and tell them to give you a call when their roof needs repaired/replaced at $400sq. I gaurantee they would have called you by end of day. I learned over the years doing construction bids, even if you are desperate for the work.......don't act or show it. If you do, you give them all the leverage.
