When I hire someone I will try paying them $11/hr. For every hour they work I take out $1. So they are really working for 10 At the end of the week and payday if they had done everything right then they get extra 40 to 50 dollars. Or hold for a month and then they get their regular check and then they get the bonus for working and having no problems showing up on time and no screw ups. That way they are pleased to be getting an extra check for say $160. They should like that!Or tell them they get 10 with the opportunity to make another1 an hour if they do great work .

Right now were paying hourly and will probably stay that way for the time being. If I was to change anything anytime soon I would probably put up a weekly bonus based on certain goals being met.
We have also given serious thought to paying based on commission, but that would be farther on down the line.
You need to be very careful how you structure paying employees or subs.Especially now.Uncle Sam is watching. He needs all the tax revenue he can get. I keep things very simple. You get paid for every hour you work.Constant positive reinforcemant.Bonuses when I feel it's been earned and if you suck you are fired.
Welcome Chris, I try to stick to a basic hourly pay if at all possible. If you find you can't fill whole days when roof cleaning maybe like $100 a day would keep them happy. This is very situational though. Or get them to hit the streets giving away free roof cleanings. Pay them a commission on that so they have extra money to float those days where the work isn't slammed.
II tape a $100.00 bill to my dash which he can see from the back seat of the truck. He knows its his at the end of the day. Keeps him motivated. Lol... I also pay 10% on any leads they get as long as we do the job. This seems to work.
There isn't a clear cut way of how to pay your employees or to give them bonuses. If you have a good group of employees and you think they are worth some sort of percentage! Sit down and have a heart to heart talk. Let them know what you are thinking and what you will be expecting of them in return.
Isnt sad how we try to come up so many ways to get people to show up and move their azz. There is an apprenticeship to this work. No one starts at the top level. 3-4 years to be good at this and get top rate (exceptions of course). I'm dying to have a top rate guy that I can pay $20 - $22 per hr. And if I ever find that guy (or girl) I guess I shouldnt expect them to stay around forever. Ambitious people move on.
At my insulation company we pay guys /sqft. they are in total control of what they make. Like i seen in a earlier post they want to stay past 4pm to get the job finished instead of going back the next day...this makes them and me more money.
Thanks for all the Welcomes.. just looking in to the roof cleaning side of the business...not even sure this is something we can add as a service.
I am on the streets selling attic insulation 6 days a week, so if could upsell an added service should be a no brainer!!!
I am just trying to get my head around cost and sell price!
i read 30 pages last night....lol just like to challenge my self with new adventures...usually last 2-3 years then need to find another challange!!!
