Looking for your best approach to selling jobs. Im not having any luck. Ive went door to door to over 350 stained roofed houses/businesses passing out fliers and out of them id say at least 60% were home to be given a sales pitch. At least 50% said how great of an idea it was and would be calling me (and havent) and only 1 signed contract, got roof cleaned, and was more than happy with results. I have a portfolio with results that was shown. I went and gave sales pitch and cards to all local reality companies with no luck. I put ads in locals classifieds with no calls. Awaiting printing co. to get yards signs that I plan to put at favorable intersections, my one completed jobs, and at all my freebies ive done. Im hoping my yard signs are my best selling tool or Ill be in sad shape.
YOur going to have to hit them up again, I've found that just one exposure to customers doesn't usually work. Contact the ones that seemed most interested again.

My yard signs I put out usually bring in 1 job almost right away within a day or 2. I only put them out in certain places like high traffic areas. I only put out about 5 signs at a time when work slows down. Someone takes them down after about a week. Not sure who takes them.
I would say stop trying to get a signed contract. Tell em your pretty booked but youd love to fill a Tuesday afternoon slot you have open. I realize you may have said it in jest, but if youre really trying to get signed contracts by cold knocking, this may not be helping. FYI Ive gotten a few calls from flyers I threw out last year. Time takes time.

I agree. Try doorhangars if you haven't already. No presssure to the homeowner. If you catch the homeowner outside while hanging them then hand them the hangar and tell them who you are and what you do and leave it at that.
If none of this works you can use the "Dinero" tactic. You ever see the movie how Dinero tries to get a real job selling cars? Show them your truck. Tell em its big and you can fit alot of bodies in there. If she snubs you just tell her she doesnt have to be a b**ch about it. If she asks to speak to your manager you can grab your package and say "I got your manager right here!"

I agree not to put pressure on the home owner. You have to keep trying, the economy is still down and people are still losing jobs. And those losing jobs are becoming roof cleaners. Like Ed said, they might call next year...keep knocking.
Watch where you put those yard signs. I been catching some serious crap lately from code enforcement. These guys have there nice cushy govt job and love to call me with threats of summons. I guess I cant blame them but you gotta suck ass when they call and say "ahh man, I told my guys not to....Sir I apologies, geez my guys...theyre killing me...ok Sir I'll have them removed by tomorrow."

LOL, I just got a call from the code enforcer too, I said I will have them removed immediately.
A Shameless Plug for myself, I will be teaching Roof Cleaning Sales at the Tampa Roundtable. I never had, or wanted 44 trucks, never did 50 million a year, and can't Fish worth a chit either But I have survived here in the unforgiving Tampa Florida Roof Cleaning market nearly 20 years
I have trained more roof cleaners then I can remember. Cleaning roofs is the EASY part, learning how to sell and market yourself is what seperates the winners from the losers.

Thats sounding more like a great idea to send my guys, cut you a check, but you have to let me say "Here, theyre your problem now". When is this round table? Cant do it now cuz up North we have like 45 minutes to make a years worth of money. August can get a bit slow and that may be a good time.

Unfortunately, it is in July, simply because a Hotel big enough for all the people is super expensive in the winter in Florida, IF u can find one!

The funny thing Clyde is I never intend to remove them. Code enforcement from Wall Township called me like 2 weeks ago. I said I would get right out to remove them. The pr*ck calls me again at friggin 6:45 this morning to complain. My guys put another sign right at the Parkway entrance 98 yesterday. Great place for a sign. Balzy move from my guys with all that traffic.
I go door to door as well, it goes in streaks but i'm around 4-6%, and like you, at least 50% tell me they'll call me, maybe 1% actually do. If they tell me they're interested and they'll call me the first thing I do is get their phone number and let them know the next time I'm in the neighborhood I'll give them a call so they can take a look or I can do a free demo. 9/10 give me their phone number.
Once you get their number sell the demo, it's easier to sell than the $500 roof cleaning and once you get the demo your closing ratio will go up substantially. Once I actually do land a job in the neighborhood, I again go door to door with a before and after pick of that house. If you can get your hands on an ipad for this it will set you apart, otherwise you'll have to constantly update your pitch book. Recent before and after photos from neighbors are my meal ticket. My follow up phone call, which might be the 2nd call after 1 or 2 visits, I'm going for the sale pretty hard. I'm not rude because I don't want to ruin my reputation and there's always next year, but I definitely ask for the business and push them a little.
The key for me is hitting the same neighborhoods over and over. I keep an excel spreadsheet with the person's name, address, phone number, and a 1-5 in terms of interest level. People will start to recognize you, talk about you, and eventually trust you.

Well you are still in business and not begging for money on every forum you go to. It is to obvious he is not the big business man he wants all to believe he is. He is a baby minnow (ex baby minnow lol) in a big lake. Actually the more I investigate and hear, he is pretty much a failure. Gosh, I want to pay thousands for him to teach me....please oh please take my money so I can be a failure also!

Great advise guys. I don't push the contract, it was just that the fella I sold the job (while giving my pitch) asked how much, I gave him a figure, and he said give me a contract. It took every bit of will power I had to keep from sprinting back and jumping in the window my truck, scrambling for the contracts. My technique has been, I tell them I was in the area and noticed they could benefit having their roof cleaning. I tell them about my methods and the benefits of cleaning. Then tell them why my method is superior to the other 2 companies that serve the area that use roof reviver and pressure rinse. I give them a rough estimate of what their roof would cost and tell them if their interested give me 5-10mins and I will give them a set price, then I give them a business card. I think I would have more jobs if I were a bit more pushier, but I just cant bring myself to be one of those salesman that pressures someone into doing something they really dont want to do. Then when you go back to do the job, they'll already be on alert, watching your every move, and inspecting every detail, because they think of you as the shiester that slicked them into buying something. I dont want to be hypocritical seeing how I go ape chit on the salesman that come bothering me tring to sell me a piece of crap $2700 vacuum sweeper or $40 steaks out of a cooler in the back of a truck. The only difference is the results and price of a roof cleaning, really is a great deal. Whom do I contact about setting yardsigns at intersections, Code officer? Would that only be within city limits? (thats about the only areas where codes are enforced here) Most areas I'm looking to set signs are rural areas that have developments and high priced homes in small townships. Most of the townships in my area have next to no code enforcement.
