I was asked to do a bid on a fairly large state building today. It would be a sub-contract bid for another company, so I wanted to ask here if anyone has had dealings with them before, and are they good to deal with?
Company name is GFS Services, they provide custodial services to schools, state offices, etc.
Contact person is Neem Moughari
Feel free to send me a pm is you don't want to post in the open forum.
Also, any ideas on how to protect myself as a sub-contractor would be most appreciated.
Thanks for your help.
Ray

well no I have not heard of them, but if you do not have work comp, i would check on what the price of work comp is just for that bid, and then state in bid, "Will furnish work comp & Liab upon acceptence of bid ".. if you did'nt know..
I wish you the best on this one

I would be the sub on this job, so I am mainly worried about their integrity, willingness and ability to pay. Was wondering if anyone else had dealt with them. For some reason, my spider senses are tingling on this one.
Also, anyone have a commercial contract they would like to share? This is a 65,000 sqf foot print, plus sidewalks, curbs, etc. So I'd have a fairly large output of$$$ and time. I've never been a sub contractor on any job this size. Any advice would be great.

Get everything in writing and don't be intimidated you are good at what you do. The rest is paper work. Get a deposit 1/3 and you can check them out with the state along with any BBB in the cities they have corporate offices in. Google search them and the phone number to see if any complaints show up. Hit it out of the park! Kim R
One more thing to check out the Notice of Commencment, not sure if applicable for cleaning but such a large project it may.
I would look up there business name and see how long they have been around. Also see if there are any name changes or other companies linked to the owner(s) or registered agent. If a company changes their name a lot, it is a good chance they are runnig form vendors they owe.
If they accept the bid then maybe ask for some references form other vendors that have worked for them. Google their name too and see if you can find any complaints about people getting burned. I would also ask for 50% down at commencement of work. Most companies i have seen around this area require that much, so it is not unreasonable. That way if there is a problem collecting down the road at least you get enough to cover most your labor and chem costs.
The reason I say all this is because a lot of business around here screw vendors. I was talking to a friend that owns a painting company today about collecting money. He told me a company that owes him money still, changed their name and burned the tile contractor out of over a $ 100K. So be careful and I hope it works out for you. GOOD LUCK!!
