Cleaning Trex Decking

Today we cleaned a Trex deck at a customers house along with the roof and exterior and everything looked great when we left, However the home owner called a few hours later and said his Trex deck is now 5 shades lighter and has white spots all over it. We use a mild mix of Simple Green and water.. I have not gone to see it yet in person but will tomorrow. We have cleaned a ton of these type of decks in the past using the same chem with no problems. Has anyone had similar issues after cleaning these types of decking?

We clean Trex also with strong sh. Those white spots could of been what was already under all the dirt.

Thats what I thought.. My guys have use roof mix on them and they were fine. This house has trees all around it and was one of the moldest homes we have cleaned. I looked at Trex website and it stats that mold and algae will eat the biofilm if not cleaned on a regular basis. Maybe when we cleaned it it took the biofilm with it?? Not sure

I had that issue when cleaning an old trex deck, but I used SH and water. I cleaned a different trex deck with my house wash mix and it turned out great..

I know you used simple green and water, but I'd suspect that it wasn't your fault. Did the deck appear to be older? Your theory makes sense...

Honestly, there was nothing that I could do. It was in bad shape before I started cleaning it, so I wasn't even sure how it would turn out. After it was clean, it looked much better, but it was obviously lighter. The customer didn't say anything about it, so I guess he probably forgot what it looked like since he never bothered to take care of it, haha.

Good luck on this one. I wonder what made the deck look worse off than it did when your guys left.

Thats what we have done for years but this guy is claiming that it turned much lighter and has white spots all over it...we didnt even hit it with SH like my guys hae done before beacuse there is a million plants around it.

I have clean quite a few and I always tell the customer that is going to get a lot lighter in color, so is their option get it whiter or live with the stains.
