If the customer isn't going to be home, I make sure they give me a credit card over the phone before the job to secure payment. If they don't want to do that, I make them leave me a check somewhere so that I ensure payment when the job is done. I never have someone give me a hassle that way. If the check isn't there when i get to the job, I call them on their cell phone and if they don't answer I don't do the job. Don't do work that you can get paid for.
