Hey Ed,..I've had pump seals go bad a few times over the years,..but I never had the oil go out into the water flow,..my problem was the oil in the pump was a light brown color.

Does it do it every time on startup? Or was this just the first time you started it this season? It could be the inside of the hose degrading.

Not much oil in the se little pumps Ed,..you can simply check the level and see if it's going down.

Hmmmm, I have 7 pressure washing machines. I also have 1 comet pump on 1.

I've pressure washed since 1978 and owned 3 or more machines at a time since 1989.

I have had, like Jeff said, creamy oil from seals leaking water into the pump, but never oil come out with the water?

I don't think it's the pump. Doesn't it have a sight glass on the end? If not, take the oil cap off and check the oil color.

Black in the water, is always from inside the hoses-to my experience.

It happened to me yesterday on a truck that my guys use and they said it happened to them before also. I pulled the trigger to rinse some light colored stucco. My heart dropped when blackness ran from the gutter down. It was quite a bit of black water. A good 4 or 5 seconds worth of black on black.

I would say this machine has about 75 hours on it for 2011.  This is the first time I seen it and my guy said its happened before.  I didnt have time to address it at the moment and since it cleared up I just let it alone.

Now that I think of it the guys arent rinsing out the pumps and hoses like i told them. Considering it was 5 seconds or so would indicate the amount of time it takes to push 200' of blackness from the hose. Nice investigatory work guys. Thanks
