For the first time that I'm aware of, 'The Franchise' has me on the ropes with a rather nice job for an elderly retired attorney. They thought I was out on my feet after takin' a beatin', but I've taken a step forward and stung like a bee!! (Good lord, will there EVER be another Ali?!!)
Here's where I could use some affirmation if you will. Not speculation, but factual evidence. (I remember Miss Kim mentioning this very thing re their trailer?).
This custom estate home, does not have 'gutters' per se', but it does have an EPDM trough of sorts that serves as a gutter system. The Franchise has the HO concerned that my chemicals may hurt the EPDM.
I politely mentioned to the elderly gentleman that some of my colleagues literally line their trailer floors with EPDM, and that I was ensured for $2M and I'd have an Insurance Certificate issued to him.
Can anyone speak from hands on experience about EPDM and roof mix? (Speaking of which, my pond is lined with EPDM. I think I'll go cut a piece off above the water line and soak it in SH.)
Lastly, I've had to come DOWN on my price to stay in the game. I don't really care if I get the job $$ wise, I just don't want to see this kind elder get his roof blasted.
This home, large tractor shed and shop building are covered in moss. The before and after pictures will be incredible.
EDPM is very bleach resistant, in fact some of the O Rings we use in pumps are made out of EDPM. These other roof cleaning outfits are mostly using sodium hydroxide. That stuff is LYE !

I am a little late in the game on this one, but ditto what they said. We soaked a piece in straight chlorine for about 3-4 days and didn't phase it. Take a piece( local roof supply house ) of and drop it in a mason jar with the SH and leave it with the HO and let it sit for a few days, if you have to, just to sell it. Go forward with total confidence on this one. Kim R
Thanks everyone. I really can't stand the thought of this gentleman falling prey to the surface-cleaner-on-a-rope deal. Morgan - the chem chart is great - thank you.
Miss Kim - have you ever known me NOT to go forward with total confidence? LOL
When I spoke with the gentleman today, I said to him 'hire our company or another, either way I'd like to act as your roof consultant pro-bono". That's when he said he was leaning heavily towards American-ProTech.
How can anyone say no to our ddoouubbllee guarantee?
I got the job. 4 figures, but still very agressive pricing to win it. At least I don't have to drag a surface cleaner around on the roof LOL.
Seriously, I politely told the gentleman that he made the riight choice, and the reasons why.
Landed another 4 figure deal yesterday too (not to mention the 3 figure deals). Damn, we're off to a good start in 2011. Thank you Mr. Tucker and all of my RCIA friends and colleagues. We're blowin' the lid off this Spring!
My secret weapon has been ordered too - all 5000 of them. Thank you Bruce!
Since we're in premium, what do you think you've grossed thus far? Given the weather and all....just trying to get a feel for that part of the country for a newer company. PM works fine if you don't wanna disclose openly.
