I have to say... This thread never touched the original question it was supposed to... but it did bring up some interesting dialog. Just so the records straight... I couldn't care one way or another about the way this one pans out. But for the sake of the conversation...
Manditory payment to become a member of the forum, before certification and as a condition of certification, ties this forum directly to certification. There is absolutely no doubt about that. Where that money gets allocatted and how its used is another story.
The reality of it is that RCIA either owns the forum and the $100 is a membership fee to be a member of RCIA, or its a sham and has no business being part of the requirement to certification.
Directly from the cert sticky section.....................

Here is the new RCIA Certification Process

  • Anyone that would like to become certified by the RCIA Must first become a PREMIUM Member. (Membership is $100 per year)

  • Any member that would like to become certified must have a minimum of 100 valid posts on the RCIA forum.

  • You must then contact Gary W. and Pay $150. This is the Certification FEE.

In the end... the $100 gets you able to say your a member of RCIA and it opens the flow of information to you. If you want more than information and to be able to say your a member... then you have to attend the webinar and go thru the cert process.
I didnt see a part for ongoing training, re-certification, roof type specific training or cert,... but RCIA is growing... It has a ton of changes to make still..... Its heading in the right direction.... Maybe... If it can stay on track.
Thats my 2cents.  And I really don't care what any of you think about it. I just wanted to know if anyone had used the softwash systems chemicals..... Like the Post heading asked!

Robert welcome aboard. If your going to " just throw money out there " why don't you first throw the money and become a premium member. That way your learning and helping.

Quite honestly I have not seen a bulitein board in my more then 20 yrs on the net that charged $$$ and lasted very long.  Im not quite sure the direction this websites is taking.   When I first logged on the $100 was for certification after doing time on the board and out in the field working. I must  admit that it has been a big part of my business development  since first logging on.  But I also believe that the best way to learn anything is by getting your hands dirty.(IE Better to invest in doing then talking about it)  I have been pressure washing for about 16yrs, and only started to dable in roofs about a year and a half ago after being asked 100 times to pressure wash peoples roofs.  Which I new from a stint working in the constructiuon trade would not be a good application on asphalt shingles.

But back to the $100 issue.   The net was originally utilized for the transfer of information mostly free, but not a viable model of course.  But with the advent of WWW advertising it obviously sprouted into one of the biggest phenominoms of our lifetime, which allows anyone with a minimal amout of traffic to supplemnt the the cost or completely pay for them.  So with that being said where exactly is this $100 per member going?  Is this a board of free flowing information between members or truly a structured institute of classes designed specifically to train roof cleaners?  I believe you have some very  knowledgeable guests on this board who would be greatly missed if they were forced out for not paying.  In fact without these guests the appeal of the board may be totally lost.

Some of what you said isn't exactly as how it is.

The $100.00 was never for certification and no where will you find a post or sticky stating that the fee for premium membership is for a certification fee. Somehow too many people had this misconception. Everything today costs $$$. There are fees with this board/forum such as the fee for the forum itself, talk shoe and instant presenter. In order for RCIA to move forward and to accomplish things in the future, it will take some money. When compared to other places, other forums/orgs, this is a deal. How does RCIA grow if there is no way to pay for the forum and all the other costs? The 100 bucks is simply the cost of doing business.

What was the old cost of certification anyway there was a cost to being certified.  I thought it was $100 before to get to be certified.  Thats where I got the $100 from.. What did you pay to be previously certified --Jeff---.

PS I think you guys should consider adding jeff as a an honorary certified premium  member... It would probably be a bonus to the premium members...  Sorry for putting the spotlight on you Jeff, just making a point..

And by the was has anyone tried the new chems yet Or Should I pay the $100 to see the real reviews. LOL

Rob, I just niticed this,..where did it come from? I didn't say it and I went back through this thread to find the original poster and thought maybe I responded to this mistakenly,...but I didn't see this in here at all,..unless I missed it??

===========================================================

Hey Rob,..thanks for the thought, but I'm not interested in being a premium member. I feel fairly certain I can make it without it. There seems to be a sense of "superiority" over there,...I don't want to be part of that.  Years ago I would have been more of a believer in a premium section,..before the information was so easily obtained,...but that ship has sailed and I'm not gonna try and start the past all over again. I will hang around here and be a freeloader.

As far as the reviews on the product,.I think people are just getting there hands on this stuff,..reviews will come to this board as well as the premium side. The vendor will make sure everyone will know it actually works as advertised. Not to mention certain premium members will want me in particualr to know it works,..simply because I've probably been the most outspoken on the product.

I will get my hands on some sometime. More interested in the Green Wash actually though.

Jeff

Well I requested a shipping quote this past weekended and they emailed me and said I would have it Monday.  I emailed yesterday to see if I would get it and got no response yet.  If they ship 900lbs units and calculate shippinging. You would think 50lb pail would be no big thing to estimate.  Anyone else have it shipped to NJ?  Maybe they are running short, Im sure they had  a great initial demand.

Hi Jeff!

I'm a fan of yours and you know that! biggrin

You have a right to do as you darn well please too! smile

Only thing is, don't you see any problem with education the public on roof cleaning, so that they can - or at least -  "feel"  they can do it themselves?

If they even "feel" that way, they are not going to want to pay much, if they do hire us?

That's my only problem with posting everything out in the open, that I can see.

It's good SEO for you though, by having all posts public! biggrin

I personally was hoping that all information that could eventually, make roof cleaning methods common knowledge to the public, be moved into the Premium section immediately?

Again, totally your business. I'm just curious.

Your friend,

Chuck

Hey Chuck,..I haven't anything against a paid forum for others,...just not for me is all. I have been asked a few times why I haven't joined,..and I simply answer. I'm not here crusading against it,..just answering the questions is all.

I hear what you're saying about the public wanting to do it themselves,..but to me the info hear concerning,.. plant life,... amounts of SH needed to do the job,... pumps,... working from ladders, etc... would make just about anyone think better of trying it on their own.

I have always said the info here is worth ALOT more than $100.00,...I know that first hand,..as I stumbled my way through for the first 4 years without help from a knowledge base as deep as this.

I remeber Chris Tucker stating back around 2005....."This Is Insanity" Thats when the private stuff should've started.

But either way Chuck,..I enjoy your posts as well.

Jeff

A lot of my customers, both ones that have researched roof cleaning and those who haven't, ask me what we are using to clean roofs. I tell them.

I love your attitude Jeff. Though I complain and moan at times, I still think $100 to become a member is fair. It has nothing to do with the roof cleaning knowledge that we gain here...as you state, this information is freely avail on the net. I feel from a marketing standpoint, that aligning yourself with a organization that promotes safe roof cleaning just gives your potential clients a "warm fuzzy."

I will probibly not bother to become certified by RCIA until they change thier cert process and/or post some actual scientifically reseached cleaning procedures. Baring that, RCIA needs one of the big manufacturers to endorse them. That is the rock that will build a solid foundation for them to say "Use our Certified Cleaners" thereby making everyone want that certification. Right now... in its present form... its a good attempt in the right direction... but it still carries no weight. There is definate benefit to becoming a member... and by Monday or Tuesday I plan to be one as well.

As for the Green Wash... Why not mix up your own Jeff? More cost effective and I'm sure you know what it basically is.

Hey Mitch,.I'm not as sure about the Green Wash. If it is what I think it is,..it's not easy to come by. So I will probably just buy theirs and go from there.

Hey Jeff I wasnt quoting you I was directing this question to you. I dont want you to think I was putting words in your mouth.

I am sorry Doug had to take the hit on this, but I am thinking I owe the board atleast 1 years membership now for saving me $300 plus for bleach wash and green wash shipped.  I thought it may be a little easier for storage and transport.  As the saying goes if its too good to be true!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Anyone want to vote LOL!

Hey Chuck,..I was just curious as to the actual affect it had on the CH as far as effectiveness is concerned,....I had distant hopes that it would actually change the white hazing issue,..but I knew that was asking alot. Probably won't even mess with any of it at this point.

@Tom,..Hey yea,..thats funny,..you are further ahead, Ha, Ha...As long as you didn't have to pay??
