Sorry Jeff, it's unanimous, you are already McGuiver. The votes are in and you can't vote for yourself. Heck, what are ya gonna do with a tank and guns anyway? You just need duct tape and whatever is handy!biggrin

I would try to do the demo at a time you could complete the job as well. confuse

After all, if they get 20% of the worst part of their roof cleaned, they'd be the oddball case, if they didn't say "go ahead and do it all"

Plus, when they see the whole big rig, the thought doesn't cross their mind, that they can do the same thing themselves. no

My main mix is simply 35-50 gal SH & 1/2 - 1 gal ammonyx lo to 100 gal h20 tank.

Most customers ask me what is in it, so I also have a bunch of chems like Simple Cherry, Simple Green, alcohol, tsp, dawn, etc that I've either bought to try, bought for certain jobs or I no longer use.

If I think they look like do it your-selfers, I tell them the honest truth [ it becomes the truth at that moment, because I will do this now, although there may only be a half cup of each added to my SH/Ammonyx mix smile.gif ]

I say:"It's different on many roofs, but on yours I'd use a combination of 6 chemicals, most of which are available through supply stores specific to this business and commonly used for roof cleaning, mixed to a safe dilution with water. Your plants with be tarped and or watered constantly for protection"

After the demo, it's day and night on the 20% and my price on the spot is say $400.00 but $450 if I have to return. = Done deal usually.

Chuck biggrin

Ive never done a quote in the service truck or had time to do an entire job just after a quote. The service truck is usually our working while im out doing quotes, so I have to have a smaller setup just for demos.

For the most part, that true with me too. But I no longer try to work full 8 hour days, so I usually underschedule anyway. If I were to do a demo, I'd start an hour early in the am. My son works the truck / trailer rig and my vehicle is only for bids. I [ or more likely my son ] almost always get extra work daily. I schedule a roof and sell pressure washing the house, pool area and driveway and often double my $ on the spot. So, I need some extra time available daily anyhow.

If I need to go do a job myself, because my son can't complete all the work that day, we put the trailer on my vehicle and my son goes off with the big truck and does whatever else is scheduled. We have a setup for the truck itself and on the trailer.

Chuck, good advice there. I have never done a demo before, but I should do them. Hitting them with the price and then saying it'll be more expensive if you come back out is not a bad idea...

i agree with using your rig for demos, shows professionalism and like someone said, it comes off as less of a DIY job. as far as pump up sprayers, i had one but i dont remember where i got it. it was 2.5 gallons and had a release valve so you didnt pump it up too much, and so you could release the pressure before unscrewing. i loved it but it fell off the tailgate and cracked. oh well. might have come from agri supply.

I have business cards that I had made up at Vista Print that say "Free Demonstration On Your Roof" { See picture I just took in bad light no

If you bid a job and they don't appear to be "sold" and say they are getting more estimates, that's the time to whip out your free demo pitch! biggrin

That's also a fact about it costing more to come back, of course. Heck, I could do it $100.00 cheaper, while I'm all set up, as opposed to scheduling it for the future and coming back!

I wish more people would let me do a demo! At least in mid summer. All winter long, I have more work than I want, much of the time-like right now! confuse
