IDK about the rest of you, but I can clean a roof. I certainly don't need a $500 certification to make me legit. This place used to be worth well over $100/ year but the value seems to be deflating. I bid a $635 job yesterday and included a link to the RCIA when I emailed him the bid. That's the first time I've ever done that. I got on the board last night and was EMBARASSED to have done so. I told the customer that this was one avenue I used to further my education. I told him that this was an organization of professionals. When I follow up with him I guess I should be suprised when I don't get the job. I've got to go now, I need to remove the RCIA logo from my website. I wasn't here when Chris started the RCIA, but I've read a shiftload of old posts and I can tell it's not what it used to be.

A GOOD point ! Some sensitive posts have crept into the search results by them being posted in the OPEN sections of the forum. We need to direct the moderators and members to glean through the threads, and I will move them away from the search engines. Customers DO read these threads guys, and while a little arguing is normal, a LOT is not good for us, it makes us look worse IMHO then hacks.
It is my opinion we need to get this Forum back to what it once was for, that is training and certification of roof cleaners. How LONG has it been since we have seen any posts about new roof cleaning stuff, pumps, chemicals, and methods ?

OO OOO OOO. I have a new method! I use one of those helicopters they use to put out forest fires. I fill the container up with "Love" and they hover over the roof and let it go. Roof is completely covered in just 10 seconds.
Now how is that for a new method!!!

Chris, I think you said exactly what most of us are feeling right now. "It is my opinion we need to get this Forum back to what it once was for, that is training and certification of roof cleaners. How LONG has it been since we have seen any posts about new roof cleaning stuff, pumps, chemicals, and methods ?"
We miss RCIA the way it was when you ran the whole show. You never tried to get $495. - $2000.00 out of us to certify roof cleaners, of which probably 90% are long time pros. You taught and we learned from your knowledge. I was always amazed, that after I had been doing roofs with no pressure since 1991, that you could know sooooo much more than me about darn near everything! Little by little others with knowledge [ maybe me included? ] posted info and thoughts that made RCIA a great and enjoyable place to be. Now, it looks like it's all about how much $ RCAI can get us to pay to get another or a 1st certification-including those of us who were already certified by you!

Unless you are in control again and it gets " back to what it once was for, that is training and certification of roof cleaners." And our minds can be back on "posts about new roof cleaning stuff, pumps, chemicals, and methods ?
Like you said, many of us will probably not be here.
I have been told by Gary, that my certification will be good through 2011.
I for one, have already been certified, by you and will not pay or take tests to put $ in anyones pocket, making believe that I need schooling in roof cleaning to keep the RCIA certification I already have.

I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way?
You gave me 3 jobs or more, down in Ft Myers and I got one of them [ I had to bid them high, because it was an hours drive each way, so maybe that's why I only got 1-the 1st one- a black lady minister. smile.gif ]
I appreciated that you thought of me!
However, I have only gotten 1 job specifically because the customer knew I was a Certified RCIA member.
So, while RCIA is a great place to learn and talk with our brother roof cleaners, for me at least, it's not really generating any substantial $ for my business. That's fine, I didn't get into RCIA thinking it would make me $ by getting more customers. I got involved for what could be learned from each other and largely from you.
I can hardly believe that RCIA needs [ I think Gary said under $500.00 ] $400.00 + each from us to survive. It's turning into something like an MLM pitch and it's sour in some of our mouths.
You have always been great Chris! Ya, I may not like your 1 man roof cleaner song confusebiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin
But heck, I like you!!!!wink
Take back control and get rid of the profiteering group and we will all be happy again, like we used to be-as you said.
Thanks for hearing me out,
Chuck

I am tired of hearing all of the AC bashing comments.  You have to realize that unlike us, AC is no longer in the physical roof cleaning business.  Now he is a vendor in the business of training & helping take your business to the next level or more.  He also sells specialized roof cleaning equipment that blow doors on anything else that you could buy.  He is also trying to sell some revolutionary chemicals for cleaning roofs.  All of this is going through Delux because they have been in the pressure washing industry for a very long time and Robert Hinderligter is one of the founders of PWNA.  If RCIA is ever going to ever be as strong of an organization like the PWNA then Robert is a man that you want in your corner.  Just like everyone else Robert is in the business of making money just like us and offering training certification in pressure washing, etc. courses.  Let Robert make some money off of RCIA certifications for members and then he will have a vested interest in seeing the RCIA grow because RCIA has to become a household name for the certifications that Robert  and AC is making money from to make a difference in whether you get a job or not.  Robert has the experience on how to grow an organization and he might help to grow RCIA is he is given a reason like "Money".

I went on AC's Wilderness Tour for a week and was a changed man.  Chemical savings alone paid for AC's course within half a year.  He taught me many other things and structured out a business plan to grow my business to a half mil a year company.  The course shaved years of growth of trial and error in learning from my business.  AC has a lot of integrity and is a very religous man or one hell of a good actor as he would have fooled my wife & I and Scott Davis & Celeste if he was like as you say.  Now AC can't be sharing what he knows because that is how he makes his living from his knowledge and believe me his courses will more than pay for themselves in  the knowledge that you will learn.

AC is a man that you want on your side as he knows how to grow a business.  It takes two things,  know how and money to grow an organization the size that RCIA needs.  It takes a lot of money to grow an organization.

Have AC & Robert on RCIA's side and they will grow it into a household name that benefits everyone..

Well stated Marcus! I agree with everything you said.  The current "rub" is regarding the cert. class that AC is offering. I'm guessing the perception amongst many members was that was the only place to get the cert and it would cost a lot of money.  In hindsight it was poor timing to announce that class before the RCIA announced an alternate pathway to certification.

Nothing against Marcus, or Roof Cleaning Katy Texas but as you can see, Marcus is a buddy of AC & the Delux owner Bob. Spent a week on a wilderness tour together, so he's defending his friend and that's what friends are for. Roof Cleaning Katy Texas may also be a friend of Marcus or AC or Bob???
I thought what the real owner of RCIA said, Chris Tucker was more appropriate to the existing situation "It is my opinion we need to get this Forum back to what it once was for, that is training and certification of roof cleaners. How LONG has it been since we have seen any posts about new roof cleaning stuff, pumps, chemicals, and methods "
I thought my post was pretty reasonable too. I was just agreeing and expanding on the wording Chris used. Looks like most who feel the same, don't dare speak out?
I don't know AC or the Delux people and I don't have a thing against either one, nor their business practices. But I'm not stupid either. Delux is obviously hoping to bilk us for $2000.00 each for a cetification. $2000.00 X how many? RCIA is just a mass market for them.
AC's involvement appears to be money making and there's nothing wrong with that, as long as it's clear that's the purpose of Delux and AC is to get all the $$$ they can from us. Businesses try to make all they can, but just be up front and admit it's about making profit for themselves, don't make believe it's just them looking out for us. Making RCIA a better place at $2000.00 X all them members they can get! I don't think it was any accident that their $2000.00 cert was offered well in advance of any others!
Do you???

Once again, this is not an anti AC post, from what I've seen of AC I like him just fine! Never did a thing to me! It's not even an anti Delux post. It's a heads up on what they appear to be about. Strictly making $$$ off of RCIA members. Again, nothing wrong with that, if they don't try to make it look like they are actually doing what they do just to help us and RCIA.They are definately not doing what the real owner Chris Tucker stated"It is my opinion we need to get this Forum back to what it once was for, that is training and certification of roof cleaners. How LONG has it been since we have seen any posts about new roof cleaning stuff, pumps, chemicals, and methods "

I didn't know we had to make a choice, but if we do, I want to be able to chose Steve Stephens. He wrote "The Pressure Cleaning Bible" and has an infinite amount of experience. I heard him speak at a PWNC roundtable and if I hire a business consultant (which is a strong possibility) he will be the first one I interview. Also, he clearly has no conflict of interest which people keep bringing up.

Is it really so hard for you "old school forum lovers" to understand that while "the way it was" helped so many of us, it also caused so many of the problems.

Chris may just be single-handedly responsible for creating thousands of roof cleaners.
Unfortunately this forum only created hundreds of good ones and only a few great ones.

No one wants to take that away.

We just want some accountability, some standards, some real training with real results.

Any out of work, no integrity, looking for a quick buck, ex-con can spend 2 days reading, 1 day buying material, and 1 day putting it together.
For less than $1,000 a week of his time he can be out there spraying "mix" all over town and calling himself a roof cleaner.

NO OTHER INDUSTRY OUTSIDE OF LANDSCAPERS OR POOL CLEANERS WOULD TOLERATE THIS!

"it's not rocket science" if I hear that one more time I will literally scream.
No, it ain't rocket science. But you $50 mix can cause THOUSANDS of $$$ in damages if you don't know what you're doing and hundreds of $$$ even if you do.

Do we need to go through the old posts of "roof cleaner falls of roof", "roof cleaners tank explodes", roof cleaners strips paint from pool enclosure"
"roof cleaner deglosses tile roof and causes 2ok in damages", or maybe just the ones on how many "old school" roof cleaners are now DEAD because they inhaled chlorine gas for 20 years.

I don't care what you think of AC, Bill, Gary, ME, Chris, whoever.
Your opinion as an individual who is only looking out for you isn't really important.

As a person who runs a PROFESSIONAL roof cleaning business and want s to be around long enough to watch my grandkids run it; I WANT THE RCIA to be more than Chris' Corner of bitching roof cleaning dudes.

You can have a BB and do what has always been done, public or private.
But the name is Roof Cleaning Institute of America not Roof Cleaning BB of America.
an Institute is an organization for training and research.
That ORG or Association has a BB or Forum.

They aren't the same thing.
One doesn't replace the other.

Chris may just be single-handedly responsible for creating thousands of roof cleaners. You should have been a mathematician! You sure got your numbers down! yawn
Unfortunately this forum only created hundreds of good ones and only a few great ones. I don't know where you get your figures from, but I'm sure you consider yourself right on top of the great pile. It's in every post you make= self important. Like the one Roof Cleaner who spoke of you as a "Pompous Ass" recently. That's clearly you.

No one wants to take that away. Good, then after my 20+ years and already having been properly certified by the existing RCIA standards at the time in 1999, by Chris Tucker, maybe you - being king and all - can grandfather me in and get off the backs of the real professional roof cleaners? That would give you more time to teach those who are new?

We just want some accountability, some standards, some real training with real results. I probably have more of that, than you and your cohorts can sell me for $2400.00 Again, I see "WE" meaning, you think you represent everyone. If you are an example of what a board member thinks like, heaven help RCIA no

Any out of work, no integrity, looking for a quick buck, ex-con can spend 2 days reading, 1 day buying material, and 1 day putting it together.
For less than $1,000 a week of his time he can be out there spraying "mix" all over town and calling himself a roof cleaner. Ya, or more likely get a job working for you at $6.00 an hour as a ground man! biggrin

NO OTHER INDUSTRY OUTSIDE OF LANDSCAPERS OR POOL CLEANERS WOULD TOLERATE THIS! Tolerate what? Is something bothering you? I hadn't noticed? confuse

"it's not rocket science" if I hear that one more time I will literally scream. It's not rocket science. I'm listening? was that you, or did I hear a little girl scream? Do you have a real high pitched voice? hmm
No, it ain't rocket science. But you $50 mix can cause THOUSANDS of $$$ in damages if you don't know what you're doing and hundreds of $$$ even if you do. Unquestionably! But when I came here in 1998 or 99 and got certified in 1999 I was already an expert in my field and had no accidents or plant kill to speak of. So, by all means, train the new guys, but what does that have to do with AC's $2400.00 cert class or charging $450.00 here or anywhere else? + Those hack roof cleaners will always exist.

No, I have been reading posts here for years and know what can happen to careless, untrained people. It is much more likely of course, with companies like yours, with $6.00 an hour know nothings in constant turnover and training.

I don't care what you think of AC, Bill, Gary, ME, Chris, whoever.
Your opinion as an individual who is only looking out for you isn't really important. Well, I can't say as I think much of you, in all honesty, I think your a self important blowhard. { Not being insulting, that honestly how you seem to be and the 2 people from RCIA who have contacted me about you [one knows you] say you are just that. I don't know that I'm "just" looking out for me. But I am speaking in my own behalf, unlike you, who seem to think you represent the whole of RCIA.

As a person who runs a PROFESSIONAL biggrinWOW! biggrin roof cleaning business and want s to be around long enough to watch my grandkids run it; I WANT THE RCIA to be more than Chris' Corner of bitching roof cleaning dudes. You are so clearly above us! Let me bow down to you for a minute - - - - -  there, feel more important yet? You talk like a 4'5" little man.biggrin I have already been in business for over 20 years, how about you?

You can have a BB and do what has always been done, public or private.
But the name is Roof Cleaning Institute of America not Roof Cleaning BB of America.
an Institute is an organization for training and research.
That ORG or Association has a BB or Forum.

They aren't the same thing.
One doesn't replace the other. You are unquestionably a genius! Man! The things you know just bedazzle me!  hmm Your sentence structure, spelling etc, you mess up so badly, could fool someone though and you could be considered less than a genius, roof cleaning king, representing the body politic here at RCIA and then you won't be able to pull off "pompous Ass" as well as you do now. And this grammatical mess you wrote was already edited by you! Now, that there's funny, I don't care who ya are! biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin { I know, run on sentence-noone is perfect- I mean except you! ashamed }  Maybe you need re-schooling? Your high school diploma should be taken away anyway, heck, it's outdated like you say my RCIA certification is. confuse I can tutor you for $2400.00 or just send you the books at a discount and you can home school! If you just pay the $$$ [just between you and me, shhhh blankstare] you will get a diploma! Not that any of that "good ole boy stuff could go on among leaders like you and your buds? evileye

Have a nice day, I have to admit, while few here are likely to take much you say seriously, you are sure a good laugh! I'm having a ball myself!

Small minds are so easy to play with! biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Is that you screaming again? Oh no, it's my wife's pooddle crying to go out to pee.

I bet you've watched that movie a lot of times! What was the name of it now??? Hmmmmm

Oh ya, THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING.

Sorry to mess with ya so much, but you ask for it.

Now you better get off that computer and run to one of your many jobs in progress, one of your $6.00 an hour kids just took a leak on a lady's begonia out back! bleh Another, just being trained up on the roof, just fell off!

Man! If this keeps up, you are going to have to be a real professional and do the work yourself! Don't worry, if that happens I'll loan you some tarps and sprinklers and for $2400.00 teach you how to use them properly! biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Thanks for correcting Matthew, AC! I hope this doesn't make him feel shorter? biggrin

Also, please don't take anything I say personal. I have nothing against you. But I do have strong personal opinions. Opinions that this feller don't take much of a likin' to! biggrin

I live "almost" on Charlotte Harbor here in SW Florida, if you ever want to go Snook or Redfinin' I know some truely backwoods places, that the guides haven't found yet! Of course, it's kind of a struggle, pulling a 15 lb snook out of a 30' wide creek! These creeks almost all end in brackish lakes and some run a mile or so back up into a "Forever Wild" designated area. I am strictly a lure fisherman and always catch and release. Not that I'm completely against catch and fillet, but I don't eat fish.no
