F250. I pulled a trailer with a newish F150 for 3 years and the transmission is just about shot. Plus theres the snow plow thing you mentioned. If its a toss up between the 2, you have to go F250 every time if you have the dough.

Scott is spot on. You can find some great deals on F250's.

For diesel, my first choice is 2000-2002 F-250 w/ 7.3l (stopped shipping

with 7.3l in 2002) Do Not get a 6.0l Ford, you will regret it.

For gas 2000-2005 F-250. You can find great deals on these trucks.

I don't know your budget, or if you are talking a new truck or used.

I just threw out some options I consider when looking at used.

Auctions are a great place to look as well.

Enterprise Fleet can grab you a new F-250, white, xtra cab, long bed, camper package (beafed up springs, trans cooler, reese hitch) vinyl floors cloth seats, am - fm, ac etc etc. for around 26k. Then lease it back to you for less than the payment would be to finance the whole wad.

Isuzu NPR. Right now you can grab barely used ones for less than the Ford.

Becareful of what ford engine you get, some are not worth rebuilding if nessacary. I blew a head gasket on my 460 and rented a 150 for two weeks. Pulled my trailer fine, but when I got my 250 back it was incredable. Welcome aboard good luck.

thanks for the kind words Ted, test drove both of them today, huge difference, looking for a used .... the 250 (which drove more like a rocket ship than a truck) I drove today was a bit out of my price range but as I'm starting to look around there are def some good deals out there .... I'll keep you posted.

If given the choice Id by a Chevrolet but since its just a work truck a ford will do.

I gave 3k for a 2000 f250 a few months ago and just the other day I came across an 06 ext cab f250 for 6500. There out there if you look around a little bit.

It was an 06 White ext cab. 5.4 v8 with 130k miles. It was on the Little Rock Ar craigslist not too long ago. If Id had the money laying around Id have bought it.

For years I drove 1/2 ton trucks and finally bought a 3/4 ton diesel 5 years ago. What an amazing difference. I'll never buy anything but 3/4 as it will do anything I need it to. As far a plowing, I know way too many people that regret using their work truck for plowing because it is so hard on a truck... front end & drive train. Most have gone to an old truck that is committed to plowing and the landfill runs.

The only part I'm unsure about is the F250 part!

Get what you can afford. A 1/2 ton will work, but a 3/4 ton will work better. Get a picture of your "dream" truck post it where you can see it everyday, and use that as motivation to really get out there and make your business work. When you have something you are really working for, you really work....
