The Domino Effect!

OK, I found this neighborhood where there are more than 50 homes with nasty looking black flat tiles. I'm  trying to come up with a strategy if possible to create a domino effect and hit every home.

How should I approach this? Should I do a couple free homes to use them a demo to see what happens? or should I hit with post cards every other week? I have faith that if I get to hit one or two roofs, the battle is on! Please advice! wink

DON'T do them for free, if you can't pay for a drum of s/h, then DON'T do them.
if you do see someone outside go talk to them, tell them you would like to use thier house as a demo and EXPLAIN to them what your going to do and that youlike to put a sign in the front yard for a month (1 week b4 and 3 weeks after) and you can do it for the rate of___ and with this you will ALSO include a free sideing cleaning.
A retired salesman (obvolusley did very well, I did some work for him) told me " YOU HAVE 30 SECONDS TO KEEP THEM FROM SAYING NO, AND 2 MIN TO MAKE THEM SAY YES because after that they quit listening" it's better to break even than to go in the red, pays the bills a little better to.

Well Said William! I've been casing some neighborhoods as well. I do have 1 advantage, as an established painting contractor I'm looking at 3-4 paint jobs a day so I look at each persons roof while there and provide a free quote with the painting estimate.

Maybe you can do a demo on one home that is common driven by, like one toward the front entrance. During the cleaning you can have someone down handing out flyers to passing cares about what your doing, or also one the job is done take before and after photos, use the house as the pictures on the flyers then deliver around in the neighbor hood once it is done.

All of this is good advice. I had some dumb luck a few years ago. Repeat gutter clean customer asked to get her wood washed. She was at the mouth of the entrance. Put a sign up and got half the neighborhood!

I was toying with something on the line of this- Postcards/fliers to all of these homes which would include a special stating: (use your own numbers and percentages) 25% off to the first 10 booked roof cleanings and the first 20 booked roof cleanings will be entered into a drawing for a 100% cash refund on their professional roof cleaning. This of course would be jazzed up a bit to make it more appealing. Also this would only be for the homes within a certain developement/street this would make the drawing seem like a more realistic chance in winning.

Joe Girard, he's an author of a book called "how to sell anything to anyone". Anyway, he had this system called "bird dogging". Basically every time he sold a car, he would hand the buyer a handful of biz cards and tell them " go ahead and write your name on the back of the cards. Give them to your friends, If someone buys a car and hands me a card with your name on it, i'll give you $50. " I wonder if you could apply this method to that particular situation? Before you know it, after they are done handing your cards back and forth across the street, you've done every roof on the block.

i read and considered once but being that i'm a nets/devils fan i'm not so sure there'd be enough people in the arena to pay for my expenses.

I think this is good advice, except, I wouldn't do anything free as a demo, but tell the homeowners at the entrance streets to the devolopment, that your regular price is $450.00 [ for instance ] but if you can put a sign in their yard for a few weeks, you will do theirs for $300.00.
Otherwise, sure as heck, his neighbors will want dirt cheap, because you did his for free. If he wants his roof cleaned at all, he won't need free, just a good deal. Then tell him, that if his neighbors ask, the price for a roof like his will be around $450
That's what I would add to what Roof Cleaning of Virginia Beach, VA 757-650-7456. wrote.
One Idea I have used, is cut the front of the roof in half and clean just half, then take your business cards to the neighbors who can easily walk out and see it. Then go to lunch and by the time you get back, the neighborhood "BUZZ" should be going?
