Yes David,..I already stated Purple Power from Wal-Mart @ $4.97 a gallon will usually work for oxidation.

If you've been using acid based cleaners for this,..then yes overall it would be a pain. As you said,..it seemed to work for Ryan,.but thats just one case,...in most cases butyl/hyrdoxide based is what you need for removing oxidized paint from surfaces,...including brick.

What do you use to remove oxidized paint from aluminum siding in preparation for paint?

Also,..it must be warm enough for just about any type cleaner to work.

I think it was at least 10 years ago that I had to remove the run off from the bricks right below the siding. I threw everything I had on my truck at it. I remember using a strong solution of Sodium Hydroxide and that didn't faze it. I don't remember what it was I used that finally did it. In the last 20 years 99.5% of my work in Va. was restoring decks. Everyone in Northern Va. has a deck and if they don't, they plan on getting one...lol
If I come across it again I will try Super Clean and see if it works.

Brick can be tough David,..so many different types and degree of porosity,(Is that a word)....

I will sometimes add hydroxide flakes to Purple Power to boost it,..makes it thick and nasty stuff.

Taginator has worked in the past for me.  I have also used hydroflouric acid to clean brick.  That was more to get rid of atmospheric pollution.  Works great.

Yea Tom,..I have done historic brick with Diedrich products, and when dealing with years of grunge,.train exhaust, atmospheric dirt, etc,...an acid is the way to go. Never used Taginator,..but I've heard of it being used for graffiti,...so yea,..I could see that working.

Hydroflouric acid is serious nasty stuff in raw form. They say it softens your bones.

That's right Jeff.  HF acid is so brutally toxic, I have heard of one guy who simply smelled a drum of 47% HF acid and he was sick for three days.

I've never used it before but I have heard, if you have to work with it keep it at 5% or below concentration.

Brian Friel just got his membership package FINALLY, he's the first one I know of!

Our new RCIA member certificates I helped design should help us sell more jobs.

Even with more than a decade of experience, sometimes you can't win them all, and hopefully this will help.

Here's a sample I made for you...not for print.

LOL! No baiting, just proud to be a part of such a great roof cleaning forum that's grown so much.

I'm not making a dime off these designs or the membership fee.
