Shutter Shine Service
Permalink

A few members had asked me about the shutter shine service they had seen on my website. First off, I did not come up with the term Shutter Shine, I seen this advertised elsewhere and thought it had a nice ring to it. What it is, is restoring faded vinyl shutters back to it's original color. I found two different items that can do this way better than Armorall. They both are products made by the Flood Company, the first is called Restora it's sold in a kit form- cleaner/conditioner. This one is costly and I haven't really found a way to make it cost effective. The second is a product called Penetrol which is normally used by painters to help reduce brush marks in oil based paint and also as a fiberglass conditioner to bring back color that has faded. Through experimenting I found it also works well on vinyl. The first one I've used about two years ago on my own shutters and they still look brand new today, the second I have just started using so I'm not sure of the long term results yet, but it is way cheaper. With my new website coming I decided to push this service a little more, we will see what happens and if there is a strong market for it.

In the paint department, normally by the paint sprayers in home depot.

Thay make Penetrol for oil and Floetrol for latex. Which one are you using? You mention oil in your post. I just want to make sure which one since I already have both.

 Brett,

I have been using the Penetrol for oil based products, never tried the Floetrol.

 Ray,

I use this all the time on vinyl siding after I do a repair. It helps blend the new siding with the faded siding.

Gary,

I bought it from Sherwin Williams, but have seen it many of places. I had just seen it the other week in a gallon container at one of my local Hardware stores at the same price that I was buying a quart for at Sherwin Williams. So I would definately shop around.
