Problem with my pump (Fatboy)

My pump one minute is pumping fine and then the next I lose pressure. I have to come off the roof and let it get pressure back and then back up the ladder. The pump acts like it gets too week to suck anymore. Anyone know what  the deal is ?

Check for air leaks in the suction line causing cavatation in the pump and a lack of pressure.

Do you bleed the hose before you climb up the ladder. If you have an air pocket in the suction line, the pump sometimes cannot push it out when you are up on a ladder and have created a lot of back pressure on the pump.

Do you have a filter on the inlet side? Is the filter restricted? Is the inlet hose collapsing?

Did you try another battery? Batteries can sometimes lose a cell and you will only get 10 volts out of them.

Do you have corrosion at any of the connections (electrical)? They cause high resistance and will kill pump performance.

The relay can be touchy if you have allowed the pump to cycle a lot. If it gets overheated, it will not let the proper current through to the pump.

The All Flo is just as bad for me. I had 3 jobs today that should have taken me 5-6 hours, ended up at 8 hours because I had to come off the roof 10+ times to fix the air hose.

Funny how folks can figure out how to take a man to the moon, but I can't consistently get liquid from my truck up on a roof. Crazy.

I feel better now. Please send the bill.

I have a 5850 that has done about 6 jobs and will power cycle. Took to a shop and they said it is in the motor. Will pump fine and then stop pumping and then just start again.

It's the one I got from PWP when I started out. May have let it get to hot?

No, mine does the same thing from the second roof on...

My next pump will not be the same. I am tired of screwing with it. I clean it out after every roof with about 20gallon of h2o, and on the second roof it caused problems. I do remember that Lori mentioned the price is going up from the manufacturer, maybe they will start covering electrical issues with the ones they have now.

I never have an issue with the pump head, it is ALWAYS the motor!!

Seriously,

Does anyone NOT have any issues with their pump? I truly would like to know if there is anyone out there that does not have to get off the roof and mess around with their pump?

This is crazy, I paid $1000+ for a compressor and an all flo, you would think that I could get fluid from a truck to a roof all the time.

I think I will go old school and either roll it on or tote 5 gal pails to the roof and use a pump up.
Sad thing is, that as soon as you use your 12v for the roof, it is void on warranty, but its the very unstable and poor connection points in the motor, not the pump. It has no contact with our chem (at least mine).

I think I will rent a lift at every location and put my chem in the lift and just use gravity to apply.

Any distributor wanna step in here and discuss this? Please..it WILL bring you my buisness if I stay with 12v.

I have:

3 year old Shurflo

2 year old 5850

1 year old All Flo

6 month old Fat Boy

All still work great. The only problems I have had with the 12 volts have been power source problems (Battery and corroded butt connectors that are covered in heat shrink).

When I first started out, I used 3/4 ag hose with double hose clamps on the feed line and the ag hose started hardening a little over time which caused air to leak past the hose end connector that was held on with 2 heavy duty clamps. I don't use clamps anymore. I use hydraulically crimped hose connections.

When you say hydraulically, are we talking Propress?

Not familiar with Propress Ed, sorry. Any hydraulic company can make up these hoses for you. There are a couple in Delaware just across the Delaware Memorial Bridge - Benz Hydraulics and Delaware Valley Hydraulics are just a couple. If the company makes hydraulic hoses, they can generally crimp any kind of fitting with any kind of hose.

Two of the suction lines I have came from PWP. They can crimp any fitting on any hose.

I have had my All-Flo set up for one year now, I havn't had one single problem yet, every time I start it up it works. I even have a back up All Flo which will probably continue being a back up. It is still sitting on my desk along with a picture of Lori in rememberance of her!
