We cleaned a small tile roof about a week ago, the customer claimed we caused a leak ! He demanded we use our insurance to fix the problem, since we walked on his roof, and "caused" the problem. In over 25 thousand roofs we have cleaned, I have only heard this 3 times. The customer is threatening to bad mouth us all over town. IMHO, he is trying to scam us into paying for a roof repair that is not our fault! I have several roofer friends who will exonerate us, and rightfully so.
Sorry to hear about that Chris, more than likely his roof had a problem before hand and like you said he is trying some scamming bullChit. I have had a few issues but not on roof leaks though. Some people are just scum bro, just scum.

How does one 'defend' against these BS accusations Chris? Any lessons learned to pass along from the other times that this happened?
Well, you got to be careful, and try to send YOUR roofer out, many roofers only want the repair job, and will side with the homeowner.
Some are just out to scam you into a free roof repair by bullying you about your reputation, not much you can do but be nice to them, tell them you are unlicensed and unininsured, and live in a weekly rental trailer park, LOL
This usually gets rid of them, just kidding, of course

Thanks Chris - I hear ya loud and clear
I actually did that to one would be scammer! He thought he had a Fish, asking for my Insurance and all. We sprayed his tile roof from the GROUND completely, he tried to claim we walked on it, broke tiles, caused leaks. I actually told him I was uninsured, and lived in a weekly rental trailer park. I "begged" him not to call my probation officer
Hope this gets resolved quickly for ya! Ask him to show u where it is leak'n in the house, see if the drywall is damp. Maybe the algae that covered his roof was the only thing between the rain and the cracks in his roof system. Good luck KIM R

Hi Kim!!
I agree that the algae could have been preventing the leak. We had two leakers last year and handled them well. But they were not trying to scam us either. May start a thread about that, just never got to it.
One thing thats is good is Randy can find a leak and where it originated from, as all leaks do not always go up from where it is penetrating inside the house. Leaks travel, and run along the rafters etc.. This guys roof could be in need of some re-caulking around the flashing, stink pipes, loose gutter, drip edge, I could go on and on. If there is a chimney up top, that is a good place to start. Chris, if Randy was down here , he could have come out and investigated it for you, Sorry. But I am sure you got it covered already :) TC KIM
